The sun peeked through the window into the boys' bedroom, shining straight onto a young fox cub's face. Jake had been sleeping peacefully, but he slowly began to wake. His ears twitched as his body began to stir, stretching his arms as he let out a big yawn. He opened his eyes and sat up in bed. It was morning, time to get up and change out of his bedtime diaper.
He kicked off the blanket and scooted over to the edge of the bed. However, something didn't feel quite right. The bulk between his legs didn't feel as bulky as usual. And it wasn't moist or squishy either. He lifted his shirt to make sure he didn't forget his protection last night. Sure enough it was there, though surprisingly still as white and poofy as it was when he put it on. Pressing his hand against it, all he felt was a plastic crinkle and some soft padding. He pulled back his waistband and checked inside, but everything in there looked good-as-new too. Miraculously, he was still dry.
Pleased with himself, the young fox hopped down from the bed. But as soon his feet hit the floor, he froze. His eyes shot wide open, his grin turned to a grimace, and both of his hands quickly thrust between his legs. While he was dry for the moment, if he didn't act fast, he wouldn't be dry much longer. Racing out of the room, he hurried down the hall to the bathroom. He grabbed the doorknob and gave it a twist, but it wouldn't budge.
"I'm in here..." his older brother groaned from the other side.
"Let me in!" Jake cried as he banged on the door. "I gotta pee!"
"Ungh... I'm kinda in the middle of something..."
"Niiiick! Please! I really gotta go!"
"Well I'm going right now! You're just gonna have to wait."
Jake whined and clutched the front of his diaper. He was determined to keep it dry for once. There wasn't much else he could do besides dance around outside and wait for his brother to finish. It felt like he was taking his sweet time though.
"Hurry up!" Jake yelled.
"Don't rush me!" Nick shouted back. "I'll be done when I'm done! Fuckin' hell man, can't even take a damn shit in this house..."
Jake crossed his legs and clenched his eyes. He tried to wait as patiently as he could, but he didn't know how much longer he could last. The urge came fast and intense, as if all the pee that usually came out while he slept was still inside him. Most mornings he'd be wet before he even woke up, so he was already well past his normal breaking point.
A few minutes passed and finally there was a flush. The door swung open and a pre-teen fox walked out, adjusting the waistband on his boxers.
"All your's." He nonchalantly said, still sounding somewhat annoyed. As he exited the bathroom, he turned his head and noticed his brother leaning against the wall, not moving at all. "Well? What are you waiting for? I thought you had to pee."
Jake was gritting his teeth and whimpering. His legs were quivering, and both of his hands were gripped between them. A small yellowish tint had begun to form in the front of his diaper, but it quickly spread throughout. Tears were forming in the young boy's eyes and running down his cheeks. He was so close, but his dry morning had just been ruined. "I..." Jake sniffled, "I just went."
"...Oh." Nick ran his fingers through his head fur as he looked around, avoiding eye contact. He wasn't sure how to respond to his little brother. "Uhh, sorry? I mean, it's not like you don't do this every night."
"This is different!" Jake shrieked. "I wasn't wet! But I had to go, and you were in the bathroom, and... and..." he wiped the tears from his face, but began sobbing even harder, "...and I couldn't hold it!"
Nick stood silently in response to the boy's blubbering, still not sure what to say. He felt bad for his younger brother, but there wasn't much that could've been done about it. It was just bad luck that they both needed the bathroom at the same time. Thinking about how to calm him down, Nick decided to try and comfort the boy.
"Hey, it's okay man." The older brother put his hand on the crying cub's shoulder and spoke with a softer, gentler voice. "You would've made it if I wasn't in there. And plus, you said you weren't wet before, right? That means you made it through the night! That's gotta count for something, right?"
Jake wiped his face again. He was still pretty upset about wetting himself, but Nick's encouragement was helping. Sniffling again, he looked up at his big brother. "I guess..."
"Yeah! Who knows, maybe it's a sign you're finally starting to kick this bedwetting thing." Nick patted him on the head, then looked down at the boy's drooping diaper. "Uhh, for now though, you should probably go change."
Jake felt a little bit better. He tried to focus on what his brother said as he went in the bathroom to get cleaned up. He made it through the night, even if this accident had set him back to his normal wet-diaper morning routine. Hopefully Nick was right about this being a sign that he was going to stop wetting the bed. The thought of waking up every morning without any wet diapers - heck, without any diapers at all - really lifted his spirits.
But for now, he had to come back to reality. As he turned on the shower, he ripped the tapes off his used diaper and folded it up. Unfortunately, his mornings were going to involve dealing with wet diapers for just a while longer.
