Ling Ling's family were invited over to Elise's house to watch a silent movie version of The Nutcracker. After the festivities Ling Ling admitted to her best friend that she wasn't a fan of the traditional story, which eventually led her to imagine herself in the nutcracker role since, as she doesn't view herself a a typical girl at her age. Elise listened closely to her out of curiosity for her version.
