For the first time in many years, Santa has opened the North Pole to all visitors. Those who are willing to make the trip will get to see the wondrous sites and sounds of Santa's workshop and the surrounding village. Santa has instructed the denizens of the village to be kind and curious to the newly arriving visitors. Why is he doing this? It is because Santa needs a bit more money to keep his factory on schedule. He's hoping the money spent on tourism, and straight donations to his factory will get everything back in order.
One of the denizens is a Reindeer called Nutmeg. She works at the North Pole Post and does various jobs involving the mail. She delivers kids messages directly to Santa and also delivers mail to the other denizens. She's good at her job, but finds it incredibly boring. So when the opportunity came to meet and talk with completely strangers, Nutmeg was one of the first volunteers to greet the new arrivals.
