I've seen a mask like this when I was a child in a European museum. I very vividly recall the black rings around the eye region (the original owner actually wore goggles atop of the eye holes for protection). This mask fascinated me deeply and I think that I've matched the one quite well which I saw so many years ago in the museum.
These beak-like shaped masks were used between the 17th, 18th and 19th century by doctors and were supposed to protect them from the plague which infested Europe in these times.
