Here we have a small insight to what family was like in the St John, Rosewood trees.
St Johns
On Ian's side of the Family he lived a pretty decent life, of close culture and the fine life, but the one draw back is his family was very strict on keeping close to your species meaning Ian would have to marry another skunk to be kept in the family, but when he signed up for the army he kinda lost some contact with his family, this mostly started around the time he met up back with Alysha. He knew his family wouldn't approve so he kept out of contact so much so that so many believed he didn't have family.
Rosewood:
The Rosewoods were more open minded about mixed species, because of Gabriella and Barclay. But they were protective of Alysha and Patricia, so much so that when conflicts between the Acorns and Baronies started up they sent the girls to the kingdom to be safe and to get a better education. Once their Barclay would sometimes fight with the Baronies with others to keep their land safe and make sure they never reached to kingdom. The girls kept in touch with their parents, Patricia told them about Charles but Alysha never really told about Ian.
