This is something I've been excited to post for a long time ~
Destined to marry as a business strategy by their families, Mary Fern and Takeshi were both raised in strict, high society households . Mary had the ambition to be a great leader since young, but no matter her intelligence and ideas, her family raised her to be the perfect wife . She should only raise good children and support her husband, and so everything she inherited as the first child would be property of her husband .
Takeshi was meant to be the man of the house, work hard and lead both the families businesses while being the role model of a powerful man, even if he never wished for none of those things . His soft spoken and anxious nature and his discontent with the families' work ethics and lack of experience with the business world made their marriage a hell on earth for both of them since for Mary, she was being forced to give up her entire life for someone who was so incompetent in what she dreamed to do .
Creating and developing Sofi and Kyle have been a very cathartic experience for me, but a big part of their existence is something I didn't show much until now, and that is their parents . At first they started just as "their dead parents", but over time as I explored Sofi and Kyle together I also developed the story of Mary Fern and Takeshi in parallel .
My characters don't have much of a linear story as you can probably tell by the random situations I put them in, but they actually do have a "canon" which is a big consequence of their parent's life .
Their whole story is very special to me since many of their traits, fears and feelings come from my life or my family .
Their relationship does change a lot as time passes . On these sketches I only showed stuff of when Kyle was still young, but as Kyle gets older they develop a lot their relationship and when Sofi is born, they're already completely different people . That impacts how differently Kyle and Sofi see their parents and their own place in the world .
I don't think I can explain their dynamic very well yet since I have a lot about them in my mind, but I hope these sketches can be interesting to someone !
