Since 80% of my OCs are just the same generic dragon design, it’s time I developed some different species characters. For a while, I’ve wanted to develop an otter character (probably due to the lovable otters made by Landonbay). The one seen here isn’t official, rather it’s a rough draft of what might be. This kept getting pushed aside by my other projects, so I kinda rushed through it to get it done.

The first issue I had was how to draw the muzzle. The style seen here is similar to the one drawn by the aforementioned Landonbay. I initially didn’t want to do this, as I felt it would be a rip off. However, when I attempted my regular muzzle/ snout style, it looked terrible. As such, I broke down and used this style, which is much more attractive. I should really watch some tutorials on youtube about snouts/ muzzles.

Next, there is the arms and legs. Most of my recent pics have featured baby characters with limbs longer than intended, so I tried to make the limbs smaller this time. I’ll let you be the judge of whether or not it looks good.

The hairstyle was next. My first attempt was a neat Napoleonic era styled ponytail which I like, however, I felt that using it would be ripping off another good artist, Tacki. That may not be true, but I’m not sure if I should use it. The second style is just something I thought up on the run and might be a good hairstyle for our otter friend, but it might be too silly. I may have to look up some other hairstyles, just no bowlcuts.

I haven’t finalized this character yet, but I have thought up some characteristics for him. He is a young otter who is partially potty trained and has a fondness for art and games. Not sure what else I should do to make him unique.
