I had no commissioners this week, so I used most of my time for this painting. This piece is deliberately more intense then what I was creating lately. It is an attempt to capture the pressure of having to create a trying to establish yourself in a market as an unknown artist. The feeling in this painting however is much less specific. It's very familiar in uncertain times.
The subject of this painting is a sambar deer as I've painted before so often with hands of a tiger holding on to him. Overall the scene is rather abstract with no clear origin of the tiger hands, all just reaching around the deer from behind. Other details are held deliberately unclear to further emphasize the feeling of pressure. The eyes for example are mostly covered by the halo to bring uncertainty to the expression of the deer.
This painting stands as a successful move towards a more abstract style that conveys a feeling more intensely, both through color and through composition. Hopefully this will mark another step forward in my journey as an artist. (:
