Max and Kyle are brothers, their parents are Rouge and Knuckles (yeah, the Echidna DNA is strong xD)

Max is the oldest but he don't want to be the next guardian, don't feel the emerald power (well yes, but only sometimes and it isn't strong).

but Kyle can, he is just a child but he can feel the power of the emerald, even can see Tikal, Who help him to be a good guardian.
