Decided to do these as a sort of showcase of Lazarus' face. ( Lazarus' story found here https://inkbunny.net/s/2263218 )
the first we have here, is him producing and then opening his mouth. Normally, he doesn't actually have a mouth. the pale line similar to his eyes, is just a visual plastered over his muzzle and head representing a mouth and eyes, but he can open his maw, but requires actually shape shifting one first as he opens his mouth. hence why it seems like his whole mouth is fused shut and seems like he's ripping his face open when opening his mouth.
The gloopy stretchy portions of his face that remain connected (second panel) become the teeth when they break, as seen in the third.
so in essence, he isn't limited to where his mouth is located, since he can then blob himself into any shape he wants.
Because of this, he doesn't actually need a mouth to speak. as his voice just projects from his body when making vibrations with his mass to make sounds. able to produce just about any sound as a result. Other wise, his voice defaults to a sound similar to the english dub of Kurama from naruto (because I like that voice.)
------
in the second picture, demonstrates his eyes. the spots show generally where and how he's looking around, though he's not limited to a specific field of vision. instead it shows where his attention is being drawn to. as well as a fairly limited amount of visual expressiveness. where otherwise, he remains with a blank jagged grinning stare.
