As of the start of the month, the webcomic Kevin & Kell have been celebrating the 25th birthday of Lindesfarne the hedgehog (though cleverly masking the anniversary of the webcomic itself).
Over the weekend, I've been composing this collage celebrating the importance of the secondary character throughout the last 25 years. It took a long time as there's 1913* strips in the comic with Lindesfarne in their category. There was a majority of 315 I gathered to make this, but soon ran out of room for them all to fit. So I tried mostly to use some of the most important, comedic or iconic moments in Lindesfarne's life.
It seems that she's come quite a long way thought this quarter century. To quote her recent virtual quill blog she states; "Here I am, a wife and a mother with a growing reputation as a genetics researcher. It’s hard to remember back when I was just an unsure teen trying to figure out my place in the world. To say the journey I’ve been on has been eventful would be an understatement. I’m not going to recap it here, but going into space was a huge deal. Then there was the inner journey of discovering my origins."
Indeed, I felt the same way after she gave birth to Turvy back in August 2017 (when she was 23 at the time) and when I made this last year;
, I could hardly believe it was the same character. I mean, I've always seen her (and still do) as that young, well-meaning yet no-nonsense hedgehog in a dark orange plaid skirt, pale orange shirt with white frilly cuffs & collar and green vest, doing scientific research and helping kids on their computers.
(* =There's probably more that involve the hedgehog but don't have her name listed in the tags - even 1/3 of her labor story is missing, and she's the central character!. One strip I'm looking for is one of her with her wheelie bag, but not many have any luggage labelled in the tags)
Nevertheless, Happy Birthday Lindesfarne and Happy Anniversary Kevin & Kell.
