Older smoke detectors use the alpha particles emitted by americium-241 to detect smoke – the latter absorbs the former, generating a dip in current and triggering the alarm. So Trixie has put it against her own genie tail, itself a column of smoke, and the detector is playing nice music rather than loud, intimidating tones.
