I decided to give Shard his own team. And they're named after the Metal Sonic Troopers that were secretly created by Charles Hedgehog in the Archie Comics. However, I haven't thought of names for each of them yet...
Each robot has a Power Gem in their torso. And each symbol is that of that of a deck of cards. Shard has the diamond, Metal Amy has the heart, Metal Tails has the spade, and Metal Knuckles has the club.
I apologize if the designs of the other robots are uninspiring. I decided to follow the example of Shard, but I didn't know what color scheme to give them. Although, I was originally planning to give Metal Knuckles the robotic color scheme of Dimitri.

Knuckles and the Chaotix have returned to Carnival Island. They have been tasked with retrieving the Chaos Rings by Charles Hedgehog.
Before traveling to the island, Charles found Dr. Eggman's old research notes about the Chaos Rings. Originally the doctor was planning to weaponize the Chaos Rings for his machinery. However, when he was unable to obtain them himself, he siphoned the energy from the Special Zone they were stored in.
With this energy, he created two different power sources: the Dark Rings and the Power Gems. The Dark Rings empowered Eggman's giant machines. And the Power Gems empowered his robots... or at least they would have.
Before the doctor could follow through with his plans, Heavy and Bomb betrayed Eggman and stole the Power Gems and presented them to the Chaotix.
Since the Power Gems were basically mass produced versions of the Chaos Rings, Charles theorized that just one Chaos Ring could fix the Power Gem that belonged to Shard the Metal Sonic.
Back in the present day, the Chaotix fought the Metal Series over possession of the Chaos Rings. The Chaotix were able defeat each member of the Metal Series. At least until Metal Sonic was powered up with a Dark Ring and transformed into Titan Metal Sonic.
In the end, the Chaotix managed to defeat Titan Metal Sonic. However, after losing the power he had, Metal Sonic managed to escape.
Charles managed to repair Shard's Power Gem by using a Chaos Ring. Now back online, Shard decided he wanted to stay on Carnival Island for a while. However, upon seeing the dismantled bodies of the Metal Series, Shard questioned what Charles was going to do with them...
