its 'forking over' and its a term exclusivily used as a demand 'yo fork over the potatos dude' or 'you man fork over the cash' its never used as a term for ones self...so perhaps its the other way round perhaps he is always asking 'others' to fork over there money that said...the mark makes little sense in this universe as there corm of hard curency is in coin form not bills..

As for the bits...ponies use it, but we didn't saw any other race not using bills. Also, Paper money in our world was made pretty early, so it's not far-fetched, that equestrian rich folk wouldn't keep huge amounts in easier to stored form...since gemstones are a dime a dozen common, and pretty first and only a few are precious, mostly the magical ones. I did see like 90% of all episodes and 1% of the comics so ponies using paper money I cannot source...you are very much right there.
