I like how the mayor just takes their stories in stride. Either he's seen it all or he figures they're joking :P.

Roofing is like life:  start at the bottom and work your way up.

Yeah. Unless it's a curbed roof. Then you start at the drains and the edges and then from one side to the other. If there are roof mounted heating and a/c units, now you're in for a real treat because you have to cover and seal the curbs under them or you'll be cleaning up a huge mess next time it rains. I hate my job which pays for my sad little life.

"A former thief that doesn't want the thief anymore? Fantastic, let me tell you about roofing."

"Wait you used to be a jinn but now have barely magic left? No problem, roofing is magical in its own right."

I like the mayor.

mayor not flinching at their stories is like "oh yeah, we got plenty like you who came thru or settled here, nothing new there"

Meh. Nothing new. I'm friends with an exonerated former death row inmate. He was proven innocent and the real killer caught in the act of another murder. I'd be like the mayor, given the circumstances. They're up front enough.

Yeah I'm really hoping the mayor has some awesome backstory of his own for handling theirs so well. ^^ <3

"So yeah, after I successfully arm wrestled The Perfect King he was freed from his curse of a thousand years of flawlessness and could finally be himself rather than being exactly what everyone expected him to be. Thankfully he turned out to be a pretty decent fellow anyway, and new a surprising amount about roof repair."

Former thieves and djinn must be more common than I assumed.

I'm that way. I'll pour two glasses of whiskey and pass one off to whoever I'm teaching how to rebuild a car engine.

Aint that how life goes?  You lay out lifelong skills to an employer, and they immediately ask you to do an unrelated thing lol.
