Pretty dark, that mysterious guy must really hate tails, either that or he is just pure evil. Anyway, would such an incident really so irreversibly destroy a relationship between two people to the point where he would be "hated forever", I am pretty sure people have done worse things IRL and been forgiven eventually.

Miles may be able to convince Cosmo and the others he was possessed if once he regains control he feigns passing out/fainting, remaining motionless for a few minutes and pretending to come to with a severe headache before freeing Cosmo. The malevolent spirit is counting on Tails to deny his actions and claim to be possessed/under mind control but if he states he has no memory of the incident and was in a blackout state during the events which isn't perfect but it's more believable than saying he was being controlled, even if he's made to go to a psychiatrist afterwards.
