Nope. He's only doing one point of damage per hit, no poison or other effect. He's just hitting the big dragon many times. It's chip damage, sure, but that's how you take down a mountain with a pickaxe, chipping away at it one swing at a time. If he can keep swinging long enough, he'll eventually take down the dragon. Just a matter if his stamina keeps up.

Stagger damage: Every hit staggers the enemy. This means that, yea, it is 1 point... 1 point in quick succession without allowing for counteratack/movement means you is fukd (soon.tm).
