Either whatever did it would be powerful enough to permanently drive the pieces apart (in which case the planet you're observing this from is history, because the flash heat from that alone would boil off the oceans and strip the atmosphere) or it'd quickly fall back into a roughly spherical shape due to gravity (but you'd still have at least one hemisphere lightly toasted).
