This is one of 3 dioramas I built for photographing my model cars. The base and backdrop are made of wood and painted over with Rustoleum, Testors, and Vallejo paints. The rocks are real ones I got from the flower bed in front of my house, and the sand and cactus plants I got from a local hobby shop. The sand was the hardest part to lay down. I had to use alternating coats of spray adhesive and sand to get the desert landscape as realistic as possible. The reason for these dioramas was because of this model of a 1965 Plymouth Satellite. When REALVOYER saw it, he said I should retake a picture of it against a scale diorama backdrop. So I built this garage diorama and retook the picture of that same car. I think he liked the retake a lot better, though I haven't heard from him yet. Though I prefer photographing my cars with simple backgrounds, I'd like you to take a look at both pictures of that car (click on the above links) and let me know which one you prefer. I'll soon be working on my third diorama, a roadside forest...so stay tuned.
