So tell me Alternate Dawn, where do you drawn the line? Somewhere between this answer and "F my host and everyone else, I only care about myself" I imagine. Would you kill the parasite with a "I don't want to hurt my host, but I don't want to die either" answer? What about "I don't like the idea of harming my host, but if I have to do so to survive I will" ?

The line is simple. "You can't save everyone, there a time that you have to make a hard choice"

It's the same as a case that you have to get ride of unborn child to save their mother when pregnant is risk to her life...

The world is a cruel place like that...

True. Right now though the choice seems to be about trying to find a way to save both. We don't know yet if both can be saved, but Alternate Dawn is going to try. I assume because it was willing to sacrifice itself for Serene. So we are not yet at the part where such a decision is necessary, Alter is deciding if he is going to spend time and effort in first finding an alternative.

I assume there is a line where Alter would decide that the parasite is not worth the time and effort to try and find an alternative and just kill it and be done with it. That's the line I'm referring to.

Also, let me state this is not criticism in any way. Its an inquiry because of an interest in the morals of a character I am invested in.

I think they were already going to try to save him but were testing him to see how he would be willing to go for her. Can’t go much further than willing to give your life.
