After talking to a few other people, I thought I would start a short style guide into how I approached learning to draw in the Alvinnn tv show style. In general, it was mostly doing reference breakdowns and then resketching my reference separately from the breakdown. It's a strategy I learned from some artists I watch on YouTube.
The first part will go over using reference to break down the head and facial features of Alvin in this instance, but of course this method would work for any character.
I tried to go over it with as much information as I could and tried to show my process in a simple way that could be understood easily. I hope it can help some people who were interested in drawing the Alvinnn tv show style, but didn't know how to start. I definitely haven't nailed it completely, but I get better at it every time I practice.
Also, once you get comfortable with your reference studies and feel like you have a grasped of what you're doing, change up the pose or making your own pose. Use reference for accuracy if you want, but don't be afraid to experiment a little. Most of my art pieces I will use multiple references for guidance for different parts, but I always try to sketch my own pose when I can.
Lastly, don't be afraid to make mistakes. I made a lot of mistakes with my art before I got to where I am and I still make mistakes. The difference though is that I learn from my mistakes and use that knowledge to improve on the next thing I work on. I'm always learning :3
