Getting to Know You

Chapter I

A New World

Twenty thousand years later, a young tigress with foxgloves, stockings, tear tracks on her muzzle, and triangular ears walked through the door of SoGa Industries in Catlanna, Gargia.  On the back of her ears was the typical white spot that tigers and all dark eared cats had.  The tigress was relatively tall, standing 5’10”, and slim, weighing 115 lbs.  She had strawberry blonde hair that reached between her shoulder blades.  She was wearing a white blouse, dark blue skirt, and open-toed shoes with two-inch heels on her plantigrade feet.  She approached the receptionist's desk and a brown and white hare with shoulder-length black hair.

The hare was wearing a medium blue dress with yellow and white flowers on it.  Next to the hare was a nameplate that read “Paula Lagomorph”(1).  The tigress said, “Miss Lagomorph, I’m Amanda Fuchs.  I have an appointment with Mrs. Impisi.”

The hare said, “Oh, it’s Mrs.”  She looked at her appointment book and said, “Yes, Miss Fuchs; I see you have an appointment with her.  Do you know where Mrs. Impisi’s office is located?”

“No, ma’am.”

“Walk through the foyer, turn right at the end.  Go to the end of the corridor, turn left and her office is the third door on the right.”

“Thank you.”

Amanda walked through the foyer and turned right.  Just as she turned right, she almost ran into a caracal man.  The caracal said, “Hello-oo beautiful.  It’s nice to see another lovely face here.  My name’s Albert Rooikat(2).  What’s yours?”

Amanda said, “Amanda Fuchs.”

“Nice to meet you, Amanda.  Are you going to be working here?”

“I’m hoping to get a job here.  Why?”

“Maybe we’ll see a lot of each other if you do.”

**********

Amanda arrived at Mrs. Impisi’s office.  She knocked on the door and, after receiving an invitation to enter, walked inside.

“Mrs. Impisi, I’m Amanda Fuchs.  I came about the secretarial opening.”

Dana Impisi(6) replied, “Ah, yes.  Amanda.  Right on time.  Do you mind taking a few tests?”

“That’s fine, Mrs. Impisi.  What do you need me to do?”

“The test is in three parts.  The first will be a typing test.  You need to type at least 60 words per minute.  The second will be a shorthand test.  The third will be a shorthand transcribing test.  In each of the shorthand tests, you’ll need to transcribe a minimum of 75 words per minute.  You will have five minutes to complete each of the tests and you will have to complete the tests with less than 5% mistakes to be considered for a job.”

“Yes, ma’am.”

Mrs. Impisi led Amanda to a desk with a typewriter and a ream of typing paper on it.  Next to the typewriter was a test book with practice documents.  Amanda took a sheet of typing paper, placed it into the typewriter, and, after Mrs. Impisi told her to start, started typing.  While she was sitting at her desk, Mrs. Impisi listened with interest as Amanda typed.  Amanda’s typing was phenomenally fast.  After five minutes, a timer on Mrs. Impisi’s desk went off and Amanda stopped typing.

Mrs. Impisi stood up and retrieved Amanda’s test paper.  She said to Amanda, “Okay, Amanda.  Now, we’re going to give you a shorthand test.”  Mrs. Impisi took out a tape recorder with earphones and said, “Once again, you have five minutes to complete this part of the test.  The letter that’s dictated on this recorder is ten minutes long so, you won’t finish the letter.  All we need here is to verify that your shorthand skills are sufficient to meet our needs.  Remember that in this test, you’ll need to transcribe 75 words per minute with less than 5% mistakes to be considered for a job.”

“Yes, ma’am.”

Mrs. Impisi returned to her desk, set the timer and Amanda began the test.

After five minutes, Amanda stopped transcribing and placed her pen and paper down for Mrs. Impisi to pick up and grade.  Mrs. Impisi placed a steno pad on the desk next to the typewriter and said, “Now, Amanda, in this test you need to type the letter that’s on the shorthand pad.”

“Yes, ma’am.”

Mrs. Impisi returned to her desk, set the timer and Amanda started typing.  After the five minutes were up, Amanda stopped typing.  “All right, Amanda.  If you’ll just sit in one of the chairs outside, I’ll complete grading your tests and let you know the results.”

“Yes, ma’am.”

After a couple of minutes, Mrs. Impisi opened the door to her office and beckoned Amanda inside.  Indicating a chair for Amanda to sit in, Mrs. Impisi sat behind her desk and looked at her for a few seconds before saying, “Amanda, I’ve tested quite a few candidates for secretarial positions with SoGa Industries in the years I’ve been head of personnel here and I can assure you that I’ve never seen a test score even close to as good as yours.  In your typing test, you typed 96 words a minute and had less than 2% mistakes.  In your shorthand test, you transcribed at a speed of 82 words a minute with no mistakes.  In the final test, you were able to transcribe and type at a rate of 91 words a minute with about 1% mistakes.  Therefore, you have qualified to be a secretary here.

“Now, I need to ask you a few questions.  First of all, why do you want to work for SoGa Industries?  A secretary with your qualifications could get a job almost anywhere.  So, why SoGa?”

“I believe my opportunities are better here than anywhere else.  My father said that SoGa is known for acknowledging and rewarding their employees for a job well done.  I believe that I would like to be a part of a company that does those things.”

“Okay.  You realize that, as a secretary, advancement could be rather slow.  What do you hope to be doing in five years?”

“I hope that I’ve proven myself to be good enough to be promoted out of the secretarial pool to become the personal secretary of one of the officers of the company.”

“I see.  Other than your secretarial skills, which are quite impressive, what other skills do you have that you believe would make you the perfect candidate for the position?”

“Well, I’m detail-oriented and, in my opinion, very efficient.  I don’t like the idea of having to do a job more than once.  I have a desire to do my job in such a manner as to make the company look in the best light possible.”

“Very good.”

Mrs. Impisi asked Amanda questions for another half an hour.  Finally, she said, “Thank you.  Now, let me make a telephone call and we’ll see where to place you.”

Mrs. Impisi turned to her telephone and dialed six digits.  “Yes, sir.  This is Dana Impisi.  I’ve just finished testing the new candidate.”

After a few seconds, she spoke again.  “Yes, sir.  She passed with flying colors.”

“Yes, sir.  Her typing score was almost 100 words per minute with less than 2% error rate.  Her shorthand speed was 82 words per minute with no mistakes and her transcribing of shorthand for typing was 91 words per minute with 1% mistakes.”

In a somewhat shocked voice, Dana said, “Really, Sir?  How much!?  Well, yes sir.  If you’re sure you want to pay her that much.  Yes, sir.  I’ll bring her right up to you.”

After this short telephone call, Mrs. Impisi said, “Well, first things first, Amanda.  Mr. Blaidd wants to offer you 18.75 Yenars(7) an hour to be his personal secretary.  Is that acceptable?”

Amanda’s mouth worked but no words came out for a few seconds.  “18.75 Yenars?  Are you sure?”

“Yes.  That’s exactly what Mr. Blaidd offered.”

“Is that acceptable?  Most assuredly, Mrs. Impisi, although I think it’s too much for a new secretary to be paid.”

“Well, he said to take it or leave it.  If it’s acceptable to you then come on and meet the person for whom you’ll be working.”

“Yes, ma’am.”

**********

Dr. Leo approached an office door.  On the door was written,

Dr. Tamara Tilacino,
Director of Medical Research,
Catlanna Medical Research Hospital

Leo knocked on the door and, after receiving approval to enter, he opened the door and he entered the office.

Behind a desk was a middle-aged thylacine female.  This was Dr. Tamara Tilacino(8).  She smiled at Leo and said, “Dr. Leo Panthera, how are you doing this morning?”

“I’m fine, Dr. Tilacino.”

“What can I do for you today?”

“Well ma’am, Tigresa and I were wondering what plans do we have for the patient in the stasis sarcophagus.”

“What do you mean, Leo?”

“I mean, if he happens to awaken from this most recent therapy, what are the hospital’s plans for him?”

“Well, we’d like to keep him under observation to make sure he doesn’t have any communicable diseases that we don’t have medications for and we want to make certain that he will be able to integrate into our society.  After all, he’s been in stasis for 20,000 years and the world is most definitely different from the world that he grew up in.  Why do you ask?”

“Well Dr. Tilacino, Tigresa and I were wondering if we could take him home with us.”

“I’ll talk to the Board of Directors but I don’t see anything wrong with that idea.  However, are you sure you and Tigresa could handle another person at your house?”

Leo laughed quietly and said, “Dr. Tilacino, Tigresa and I have been planning this since we took over his case.  You know Tigresa; she’s the consummate mother.  She loves taking care of people.  She’s even started talking about possibly adopting him so that he’ll some family.”

“I understand, Leo.  When will we need to have to make the decision?”

“If the records that have survived are correct, we’ll know something in three days.”

“I’ll make sure to have a decision by then.  But, if they agree to allow you to take him home with you, I want to meet him before you take him home.”

“Yes, ma’am.”

**********

Mrs. Impisi led Amanda out of her office, down a hallway between cubicles until they reached a bank of two elevators.  Mrs. Impisi input a seven-digit code into a keypad on a panel in the wall next to one of the elevators.  After the doors opened, Mrs. Impisi and Amanda entered and Mrs. Impisi pressed number 12.

When the elevator doors opened, Amanda was amazed at the sight that met her eyes.  She saw a lobby twenty feet wide by thirty feet deep.  On either side of the lobby were four offices each with a desk and secretary in front of each door.  At the far end of the lobby was a single office door with a desk and secretary.  Amanda noticed the occupants of each of the desks as she passed them.  On her right, there was a Mexican red wolf man, a European red squirrel woman, a Manul woman, and an American badger woman.  On her left was an African dog man, an African leopard woman, and a serval woman; the fourth desk was unoccupied, although it did have personal effects on it.  Mrs. Impisi led Amanda across the lobby to the single desk.  Behind the desk was a door with a placard on it.  The placard read “Edward Blaidd, President”.  Amanda was a little surprised that they were visiting the president of the company.

Behind the desk sat a mixed-species bear woman whose face was half white and half dark brown in a swirl pattern.  On the desk was a nameplate that read “Bertha Karhu”.  Mrs. Impisi approached Bertha9 and said, “Miss Karhu, could we please speak with Mr. Blaidd?  He’s expecting us.”

In a contralto voice, Bertha Karhu said, “Of course, Mrs. Impisi.”

Bertha reached over and, pressing a button on the intercom, said, “Mr. Blaidd?”

“Yes, Bertha?”  A friendly sounding baritone voice replied.

“Mr. Blaidd, Mrs. Impisi is here with a young lady.”

“Ah, yes.  Please send them in, Bertha.”

“Yes, sir.”

Bertha indicated the office door and Mrs. Impisi and Amanda entered the office.  Upon entering the office, Amanda saw a large dark brown desk with an equally large European gray wolf arising from behind it.  On one side of the desk, she saw a bust photo of a very attractive calico rabbit woman with deep blue eyes and dark brown hair.  The rabbit looked to be in her late 30s to early 40s.  On the other side of the desk was another photo, this one was of Mr. Blaidd with his arms around the rabbit woman.  Amanda saw five children, three girls, and two boys, each with different aspects of each of the parents, also in the photo.

Edward Blaidd(10) came around the desk with his hand extended toward Amanda.  After taking her hand, Edward said, “Amanda!  I’m pleased to hear that you did so well on the tests.  How is Jacob?”

“He’s doing fine, Mr. Blaidd.”

“Good.  I haven’t seen him in a few months.  I’ve been too busy to stop by and visit.”

“He understands, Mr. Blaidd.  Of course, at this time, he’s out of town.”

“Please, Amanda, Dana, have a seat.”

Amanda and Mrs. Impisi took a seat as Edward sat on the edge of his desk and continued.  “So, you want to be a secretary at SoGa Industries.”

“Yes, sir.”

“From your test scores that Dana told me about, you definitely qualify to be a secretary here.  But, you’re rather young.”

“I am 18, sir.”

“Eighteen!  How did you gain your secretarial skills in such a short time and did you even go to school for training?”

“Yes, sir.  I did go to secretarial school.  I graduated from high school when I was 16 and went to secretarial school the following fall.  While I was at school, I spoke with my father about what to do when I graduated and he suggested that I look into working for SoGa.  He reminded me that you were the president of the company.”

“Well, don’t think that just because your father and I are old friends, I’ll treat you better than I do anyone else.”

“I understand, sir.”

“So, how is Jacob doing?”

“He’s doing quite well, sir.  He works every day and spends as much time with me, my mother and siblings as he possibly can.”

“That’s good.  Well, when can you start, Amanda?”

“I could start Monday, sir.”

“Great!  I’ll see you Monday, then.”

“Where will I be working, Mr. Blaidd?”

“Right outside.  Bertha is the personal secretary of Mr. Schimpanse.  Mr. Schimpanse has been on vacation for the last month and, since I temporarily needed a secretary, she gladly volunteered.”

Amanda looked nervous and said, “Won’t the other secretaries be upset that I just waltz in here and get the job as your personal secretary?”

“No.  We offered the position for two weeks before we offered it to the general public.  Nobody wanted it so, you’re the winner.”

**********

Almost immediately after Mrs. Impisi and Amanda entered Mr. Blaidd’s office, the badger woman arose from her desk and, looking toward Mr. Blaidd’s door approached Bertha.  She stood there for several seconds before Bertha responded.  Not looking up from her work, Bertha said, “What do you want, Wanda(11)?”

“Bertha, who was that very attractive tigress that just went into Mr. Blaidd’s office?”

“If you’re referring to the young woman who accompanied Mrs. Impisi, her name is Amanda Fuchs.”

“Fuchs?  She’s not a fox.”

“I just know what her name is, Wanda.  Why are you interested in her?”

Smiling, Wanda said, “Are you jealous, Bertha?  Do you think I’m going to toss you to the side because of a new girl?”

“Not really, Wanda.  You know I prefer guys.  Just because we sleep together occasionally doesn’t make me a lesbian.”

“And I’m not either.  We both can be described as male-oriented bisexual women.”

“Speak for yourself, Wanda.  You’re the only woman I’ve ever been with and that would never have happened had I not gotten drunk at your place that first time.”

“But you’ve been back numerous times since and you’ve never been drunk any of the other times,”  Wanda said with a smirk in her voice.

“Don’t remind me.”

“Aw, don't be like that, Bertha.  You know you're my favorite bear."  Bertha gave Wanda a look causing Wanda to smile.  "Are you going to come over Friday night?”

“I don’t know, Wanda.  I don’t want to ask my parents to look after my cubs again so soon.”

Just at that moment, they heard a male clearing his throat behind Wanda.  They both looked and saw a tarsier man standing behind them.  Bertha said, “Mr. Grubo(12).  What can I do for you?”

Mr. Nicholai Grubo looked at the two of them and said, “Wanda, do you not have anything to do?”

“Yes, sir, I do.”

“Then, please do it.  I don’t care what you and Bertha do when you’re away from work.  It isn’t any of my business but, what you two do at work is my business.”

Wanda and Bertha said, “Yes, sir.”

Wanda returned to her desk, inserted a sheet of typing paper into her typewriter, and started typing.  Bertha smiled at Mr. Grubo and started typing again.  As Bertha was typing, Mr. Grubo whispered, “I’m sorry, Bertha.  I know you’re a hard worker and, for that matter, so is Wanda but, you’ll learn about the new employee soon enough.  There’s no sense in wasting time contemplating about her.”

Bertha said, “Yes, sir.  I’m sorry.”

“That’s quite all right, Bertha.”  Mr. Grubo turned around and returned to his office.

Just as Mr. Grubo closed the door to his office, the door to Mr. Blaidd’s office opened and Mr. Blaidd, accompanied by Mrs. Impisi and Amanda, walked out.  Mr. Blaidd said, “Everybody, would you please stop working for a few moments and come here.  I have someone I’d like for you to meet.  Bertha would you please call all of the vice-presidents and ask them to come here as well?”

“Yes, sir.”

After everyone arrived, Mr. Blaidd said, “Everyone, this is Amanda Fuchs.  She’s been hired as my personal secretary.  She’ll be starting on Monday.  Please make her feel welcome and at home.  Now, get back to work; we have a company to run here.”  He added smiling, causing everyone to laugh.

After everyone returned to work, Mr. Blaidd said to Amanda, “Amanda, I look forward to seeing you here Monday morning at 0300(13).”

“Yes, sir.  Thank you, sir.  I’ll be here.  You know my mother, though.  She may try to prevent me from getting here but I’ll be here if I have to walk all the way.”

“I know you will, Amanda.  I’m not worried about that.”

**********

After the end of their workday, Leo and Tigresa told their replacements what they had done for Michael, filled out the necessary paperwork to turn over Michael’s care to the replacements.  They went to the office of Dr. Tilacino and informed her that they had completed their work and that Michael’s vital signs were unchanged from the previous day.

Dr. Leo said, “Dr. Tilacino, we won’t know if this therapy works until Friday, assuming that Dr. Broadhurst’s notes are correct.”

“All right, Leo.”

Dr. Tigresa looked sidelong at Leo and said, “Dr. Tilacino, did Leo speak to you earlier today?”

“About what, Tigresa?”

“Well Dr. Tilacino, Leo and I were thinking.  If this therapy works and Mr. Thomson awakens, he won’t have anywhere to live whenever you believe he can be released from the hospital.  So, we were wondering if you’d consider allowing us to bring him home with us.  Plus, he will need to be educated about our way of life.  We can do that more efficiently and less expensively than the hospital could.”

“Ah, yes Tigresa, Leo did speak to me about that and even though the government has said that they will pay whatever it costs to educate Michael if he ever awakens, I know they’d rather not spend any more than is absolutely necessary to take care of him.  I’ll talk with the Board of Directors and contact the central government and tell them that he may be awake in three days and see what they say.  I’ll tell them about your offer to take him in and be responsible for his education.  Perhaps, they’ll offer to reimburse a portion of your costs.”

Dr. Tigresa said, “Thank you, Dr. Tilacino.  We’ll look forward to hearing what we can do with Michael.

“We won’t take up any more of your time, Dr. Tilacino.  Come on, Leo.  We have cubs to go take care of.”

“Of course, my dear.  We’ll see you tomorrow, Dr. Tilacino.”  Drs. Leo and Tigresa left the office of Dr. Tilacino.

**********

After a 30-minute drive, Leo and Tigresa arrived at home.  Leo unlocked the door and said, “We’re home!”

An ear-piercing screech of happiness could be heard coming from the back of the house.  A few seconds later, a small orange feline cub ran around a corner in the high-stepping run of a toddler.  The toddler ran right up to Tigresa as she screamed, “Mommy!  Mommy!”

Tigresa, who had knelt down when the door was opened, caught the youngster and, picking her up, hugged her to her breast.  “How’s my baby Anne(14) doing?”

Anne wrapped her little arms around Tigresa’s neck, hugged, and kissed her.  “Mommy!  Mama Komak pway tea pahty wif Anne.”

Just at that moment, an older hamster walked into the living room.  She was breathing hard as she arrived.  In a voice with a mild Russian accent, she said, “Dr. Leo, Dr. Tigresa, how was your day?”

Tigresa said, “Our day was rather good.  From your heavy breathing, I’m guessing that, once again, Anne was a bit of a handful.”

“Oh, she’s just a toddler without a care in the world, Dr. Tigresa.  Chasing her around keeps me young.  Keeping me young makes me still attractive to those young studs that keep hounding me for dates.”  She laughed lightly.

Leo ducked his head a bit and looked at Tigresa who was smiling.  Tigresa said, “Well, you be careful with those young studs.  I wouldn’t want you hurting yourself.  It’s hard to find a decent babysitter who’ll stay all day as well as cooking lunch for Anne.”

“Oh, nothing to worry about, Dr. Tigresa.  Some of those young studs can’t keep up with me.  We Fursian women are hearty.”  Once again, she laughed lightly.

Leo said, “Well, come on, Mrs. Khomyak(15), I’ll take you home.”

“You’re such a gentleman, Dr. Leo.  If you weren’t married, I’d add you to my harem of young studs.”

Leo laughed quietly as he said, “Then, I’m glad I’ve got my beautiful wife to keep me straight.  I don’t believe I’d like being in a harem.”

(50 kg).  She has a slightly rounded hamster type of body but she isn’t obese.

There's No Way, Introduction
There's No Way, Chapter 2
It's 20,000 years later. Michael is still in stasis and in the care of two doctors, Drs. Leo and Tigresa Panthera, who are attempting to find a cure for the HEV. After almost 20 years of trying, they finally believe they've got the cure. After injecting the serum into the blood aerator, they leave to give the serum a chance to work. Dr. Leo informs the Research Director, Mrs. Tamara Tilacino, of the newest therapy they've developed to, hopefully, cure Michael's virus.

Meanwhile, Amanda Fuchs arrives at SoGa Industries to apply for a job. She meets the local womanizer, Albert Rooikat, and is not impressed with him, even a little bit, although he's very impressed with her. Amanda impresses the Personnel Manager, Dana Impisi, sufficiently that she's offered a job as the personal secretary of the President of the company.

Just an FYI, you might have noticed it. This submission doesn't have a proper title on it, just "New Submission"

If you're unsure how to change it, here's how to do so :)

Under the left thumbnail (the "older" submission) is "Edit Details," click on that. Then once it's loaded you can change the title to "Michael and Amanda, Chapter 1" or whatever you want/need to call it. Then near the bottom of the page is "Save" click that and you've changed it :)

Well, sonuvabitch, you're absolutely right.  I thought I'd put the title in the proper location but, obviously, I hadn't.  It's corrected now, though, including adding the description.  Thanks for pointing that out to me.  I guess uploading it the way I have to do so so that IB will accept it probably had a lot to do with that mistake.  I'd best check the rest of the chapters to be sure they've got proper titles.

BTW, I'll be uploading Chapter 4 later today.  I'll be doing that when I finish grocery shopping and start washing clothes.

You're welcome.

Due to many headaches/migraines lately, I haven't even started on chapter 1. I just can't read with a headache/migraine. Hopefully soon they'll stop and I can go back to a more normal daily life without daily headaches/migraines.

I quite understand about migraines.  I have inherited a type of migraine from my mother.  When I get one, if I'm not sitting or lying down, I risk passing out and waking up with a major migraine headache.  So, I'm not concerned about it taking you a long time to start reading my story.  You'll get to it when you can.

I read a little bit a while back, but had to stop at "Dr. Leo approached an office door.  On the door was written," due to a headache/migraine. DX

But yeah, I'll get to it at some point.

Well, as I said, take your time.  It's going to be up for a while.

Finally read this one, it's a pretty good build up to more to come. The writing is quite nicely done!

Thanks.  I think my first attempt at writing a story helped me with this one.  I still like my other story better but, I also like this one.  I think my character development is better in "Michael and Amanda" than in "Marooned on Tashoo".

Yeah, your character development is pretty indepth. I don't even think that I usually go that deep with mine XD

You know, the funny thing about my character development is that I don't develop a character until I need said character.  For example, Amanda was just a name that I loved until I decided to write this story.  As I wrote it, I asked myself what kind of female would I want if I was Michael.  I knew I loved tigers and foxes so why not mix them into a character and, voila, Amanda Fuchs was born.  As I wrote around her, I developed her more and more until she became the character you see in the story.  Usually, with male characters, I take a bit of myself (personality, likes, dislikes, etc.) and put them into the character.  I really like creating and developing a character.  It helps to keep my creativity strong.

I know what you mean. I do the same thing, mostly.

Take Fang Wolfe. He loves Subaru STIs, it's the car that I have, a 2005. The car he was driving when he was side swiped by the drunk driver, was a 2005 STI. I've put some of myself into him. He'll help others more than himself. If he can, he'll spend money on pointless things. He and I both love Chemistry, he has a much, much bigger chemistry setup than I do, he has dozens of chemicals. He rarely ever does anything with the chemistry stuff, I don't either. XD

Almost every single one of my characters has at least one of my traits in them, being tall or skinny, or chemistry (lots of my characters love chemistry XD ). Onai loves electronics, as do I. Luna she's stubborn in ways, as I am. I've kind of stopped using my traits though since I pretty much ran out and don't want things repeating as much XD

I also originally had Fang killed off when Jag attacked him in school, but after the first line at the hospital, I just couldn't do it. I loved Fang too much to do it. I loved Vapor too much to let her go through that amount of pain again, after just a few years of her parents death. I couldn't let Onai and Luna not ever know their father. I had the idea for a day or so while I wrote up that story, I'm glad I didn't go through with it. So, I just made it where Fang would get hurt every now and then XD

There's another story line, I've only uploaded one of the 5+ stories (just 2 are finished, #1 and #2) and I use the name Amy, I love the name, but don't like using it often because I know 3 Amy's in real life.

I rarely ever think ahead of characters, names or anything. Take Todd Hopkins, Luna's mate, as I wrote "Luna Skips Class" or whatever the story title was, I just started typing. I didn't know what I really wanted other than Luna to skip class. I put down that she followed the boy and it wasn't until later on that he became Todd the rabbit.

Anyways, I'm rambling... I usually just make characters up on the fly, along with names, species and what not.

So yeah, you have some of my unpublished ideas for a couple of the characters that I have XD

Since you've just started reading the story, I won't give you any spoilers but, I'll say that the best character I've ever created on the fly is Amanda's mother, Ophelia.  Ophelia is not your typical mother.  That's all I'll say for sure about her.  As you read the story, you'll note that my main/major female characters have interesting names, Ophelia, Wanda, Bertha, etc.  Of course, they aren't as unique as the names of your characters but, they definitely are names you don't see every day.  LOL.

In "Marooned on Tashoo", every major male character has at least 1 of my traits including the antagonist.  It's hard to put an evil character in a story and know that you're showing a part of you to the world.  The protagonist, William Henry Watson, has one characteristic that I wish I had, though.  He's self-confident.  He doesn't believe he can fail at anything and he usually is right.

I know both a Wanda and Bertha irl. Wanda was one of my cousins wife.

And, of course, there's a famous Ophelia (I just can't remember her full name).

Although, I must admit that I got the name from "Hamlet".

Ah. Never read it. Was supposed to in high school, but never made it past the second or third page. Teacher tried to fail me on it but a parent-teacher-admin ARD meeting took care of it and that missed assignment never made it on my final grade.

I've read it but it was a long, long time ago.  I just remember a lot of the major characters and I know that Ophelia was Hamlet's fiance who went insane and eventually drowned herself.

Oh good! I got this chapter in. Really good work, my friend. I like the beginning of the story arc, so far. Nice set up, and I can definitely see a Sabrina Online type world developing here. That is who I picture when you introduce more characters is that style of art to see them in my head

Thanks.  Just wait until you read the next chapter.  I believe you'll get a good laugh.  I'd tell you more but I don't want to ruin the surprise.
