If Shomari is a conquerer, then he´s failing at the basics. It would be more profitable to form alliances instead of violating customs and threatening his neighbors. Because even a large empire will collapse if it´s build on force alone.

If the Princess is the only heir to the throne, then sending a diplomatic mission packed with gifts for her birthday would be far wiser. Maybe a proposal of marriage either by Shomari himself or one of his relatives / closest companions would be far more reasonable. It would not just prevent causing malice between him and the people of this city state, but it would also solidify his legitimacy should they have kids together. So yeah, Shomari may be a great conquerer, but his empire won´t last long if he allways conducts his expansion like this.
