Depends on the sand I think -- the beaches I went to at that age had very smooth-grained sand that never held its shape, but there are other types like the one they use for sand sculpture competitions. (River sand deposits, it says). That stuff can keep its shape for half a year outdoors...
Maybe I'm getting soft in my dotage. But don't worry, there is still snuff to post!
