Drawn by keetahspacecat: who wrote a little story to go along with it! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Pheagle gripped the broom in his hands as he swept the barn floor. The smell of fresh hay and the rich scent of oats and barley was enough to cover the smells of the things he had to sweep up. It wasn't all that bad – while it certainly smelled like a barn, he'd been on plenty before. He was just glad to have gotten the farm hand job, though it was a little weird that his hourly pay was so high. If he had known that farm hands made this much, he would have looked for this type of work sooner.
His cleaning was interrupted by a sad meow. Looking down past his boots, he noticed one of the barn cats, a spotted tabby queen with mismatched eyes, looking up at him expectantly.
He checked his watch to realize that it was milking time. The farm hand milked their cows, since they only had five. But all of them were currently with the farrier, getting their checkups. He watched his fellow workers before milk the cows and give the barn cats their payment for keeping the mice population down. Each one got a dish of fresh warm milk, and each cat knew when to expect it. He looked into the rafters to see the other cats start making their way down, expecting their payment.
"I'm sorry, little one." Pheagle was indeed apologetic, he knew what it was like to expect something nice and then not get it. "Your milk is going to be late today."
'Unacceptable,' the eyes of the feline in front of him seemed to say. She looked at him with a mysterious glint in her eyes, and there was a mote of color there that he hadn’t seen before. It seemed strange, but cats are cats, so he brushed it off.
"No worries, the farrier will be done soon and you'll get your milk." He turned around and went back to sweeping, only to feel an odd pressure on his belly. His hands ached and a flush of heat ran across his body.
"Huh?" He turned and looked to see the same cat staring at him intently.
