Let's see. The original was over designed. Spikes all over, boob window, tough girl attitude. Too many colors. And no role.
A good design should reflect the role of the character in the story. You don't need a 40 pages background. You simply need a general idea. Sting was design with the simple idea to be a manticore. So pointy tail, lion body, human face and bad attitude. Let's maintain these things with a drop of modern sonic design.
