Character Sheet for Marie Guadalupe Solis
Background/History
Marie was surrendered by her birth parents and left in the care of Padre Arturo as a newborn. Her parents were both quirkless human teenagers who had run away after realizing they were with child. At first they intended to raise her together, but once she was born they were horrified at her appearance and terrified at the prospect of raising a child like Marie in their community who was openly hostile to those with quirks. The two had no money, no car, or any sort of outside support, so shortly after her mother recovered from giving birth they attempted to bury her alive to her in the surrounding woods, intending to leave her to die without anybody ever finding out about her. Her father dug the pit, but neither could go through with it in the end, so they instead trekked several miles on foot into the nearest quirk-friendly city to take her to a safe surrender site.
Hours later when they reached the outskirts of Ima Máteru, Marie’s mother staggered while walking and collapsed from exhaustion. Luckily a close friend of Padre Arturo, Bo Hae-won, was out doing errands for his restaurant and found the two resting on the side of the road. He stopped his car, extremely alarmed at their disheveled appearance and the small crying bundle in the young man’s arms, but they convinced him to not call authorities after showing him their baby and having a short talk. He decided that his errands could wait for another day drove them to Arturo’s newly built orphanage. Once there he helped her mother into the building and on a bed to rest. While she rested Hae-won took her father and the infant Marie to see Arturo. He explained everything, and while Hae-won was empathetic to their plight Arturo was upset at the thought of them leaving their own newborn to die all alone in the woods. Arturo accepted their surrender of their baby on the spot, drawing up the necessary paperwork from his office. After both her parents signed he immediately put the records off to the side and gave them a curt goodbye before taking Marie away to clean her up and feed her. Her parents were miserable, but did nothing to stop him. Hae-won was a little exasperated at his lack of kindness to them despite their obvious sorrow, but understood why he was so cold. Hae-won offered to drive them back to their village, and gave them some free food from his restaurant on the way. As they approached their village he offered them kind words, and tentatively asked who else knew about their baby. They told him that nobody else knew, that they had run away before anybody else noticed obvious signs of pregnancy and weren’t sure of what to do or how to explain their situation to their families. Her mother tearfully admitted she wasn’t sure how she could live with herself knowing what she almost did and that their daughter is somewhere out there. Hae-won parked on the edge of their town and after telling them they could rest easy knowing they did the right thing for their baby he used his own quirk (“Ignorant Bliss”) to erase their memories of everything that had transpired, all the way back to Marie’s conception. Then he led them out of his car and left them on the edge of town while they were in a daze, making a lot of noise while peeling out to draw attention, but leaving before anybody saw him or recognized his vehicle.
Relatives/Family
Marie knows nothing of her origins or that Arturo met her parents, and is under the impression she was just left anonymously at the steps of the orphanage one morning with a little note that only had her birthday on it. She is sometimes curious about her birth parents, but the love and care that she receives at home in the orphanage leaves nothing to be desired.
She is happy and content with her adoptive family and loves being Arturo’s daughter. His stern disposition, strict nature and value of discipline makes it so he doesn’t exactly spoil her, but he does love her dearly and provides her everything she needs.
World/Setting
She is from the My Hero Academia world and lives in an orphanage named La Casa Para Niños Dotados (“House for Gifted Children”) set in the beautiful and bustling coastal city of Ima Máteru, Michoacán, México. The orphanage was founded and built by her adopted father, Padre Arturo. The name Ima Máteru means “the [or that] other” in the language of the indigenous people Purépecha of the state of Michoacán, and it is well renowned for its diverse population and beautiful scenery and landscape. The city is surrounded by dangerous and hostile rural areas, but the city itself is safe enough to raise the vulnerable children of the orphanage.
