Were you ever into Buddhism?

I've read about it. :-)

A girlfriend of mine was a Buddhist. It is a religion which is quite hard to understand, honestly.

It makes sense... it's just got rules, like all of the others. They're just a bit more laid back... well... for the most part. :-)

I still don't get their soul concept. It is almost too alien for the Western mind.

I don't really care for that either. It's too... non-selfish.

I tried to understand it, but I think that I failed.

It's okay. Ultimately, their religion wants you to not want their religion. It's kinda weird. They make Buddha toilet paper for that very reason.

Yeah, I once met a monk who smiled at me and told me that he wants "to meet Buddha and shoot him". I was a bit shocked by his statement but he just continued to smile. He also told me that "Buddha is shit and Jesus is WAY better". He also called Buddha "impotent" and an "empty shell". I just stood there and did not know what to say. To this day I have no clue what he meant or why he said these things. I literally shared my bed with a Buddhist, but Buddhism has never become any less mysterious to me. I also met a Buddhist man who tried to sing a snake into sleep with chants. Their concepts seem almost otherworldly. Real Buddhism is absolutely nothing like the westernized Buddhism we have here in the West. It is by far the most alien system of thought which I have encountered so far. This is both amazing and confusing.

That just sounds like you met some one who was going through some religious ... musings. :-)

I agree! Hey, how were your experiences with Buddhists and Buddhism?
Phraggle

I never really had any with anyone. From what I experienced on my own, it could be tranquil. It just depends on where one is at any given moment.
