It was... surprising, to say the least when Sonic approached. He'd just been meditating, as usual, cracking an eye open when he was addressed. At first, he'd been ready to tell him off, thinking he wanted a spar or something. Eggman couldn't be involved considering how there was no feeling of tension. But then the question had him nearly falling off the altar. "How much do you know about this Super Form stuff?" At first, he didn't know what to think. Was that a question, or an insult? But the more Sonic went on, curiosity turned to understanding. Despite his natural affinity for Chaos Power, Sonic was overall clueless to its inner mechanisms. He knew it turned him invincible for the most part, and he could fly. He'd only scratched the surface of what he was capable of. Which was why they now found themselves standing in a field. They'd gone through the work of gathering the Chaos Emeralds in the Hidden Palace, transforming them into the greater Super Emeralds. A flash of power transformed the rich blue to a shimmering, almost holographic sheen that flashed through all the colors of the rainbow, making him look nearly white. Sonic was confused at their location, before Knuckles began to explain. "Chaos Energy is unlike any other on this planet. For one, it flows backward, rather than forward, through time, which is why it's able to be used for time travel," he had explained while they walked. He had explained the nuances of the positive, negative, and neutral aspects, which Sonic knew partially, but it was nice to really give the hedgehog a full lesson on his power. Positive energy could do more than just negate the negative. It was healing, enriching, calming. It could even grow flowers and restore nature, which was why he led him to a barren patch of earth. "It requires a lot of strength, but it's possible to heal things." Once they arrived, he gestured out to the land. "With all that power in Hyper Form, you could revitalize an area even as barren as this one." Naturally, Sonic was excited at the prospect. But even standing there, feeling that energy wafting off of his body, there was no grass or flowers to show for it. "But nothing is happening..." Of course, that ignorance was easy to understand, since Sonic never had to put effort into using the true power of his forms. He just did what came to him, so it fell upon the echidna to explain. Indirect power wouldn't be enough. Just like how water had to soak into the ground, Sonic had to feed his power in. "You have to be completely connected to the ground. Your shoes and socks are acting like a buffer." It was part of the reason why Knuckles never started wearing clothes. The material just got in the way of his senses. He could reach so much further with nothing covering his hands and feet. Of course, for Sonic, that wasn't an option, being as the soles were specially designed to withstand the friction of running at speeds over Mach 1. He could see Sonic cupping his chin in thought, and resisted the urge to laugh. Sonic, of course, was weighing his options of whether to believe Knuckles. It was worth a shot going au naturale, at least in terms of his feet, but he had to wonder if his friend was telling the truth or just making up an excuse to see his pads. Not that he could blame him; they were nice looking. Even so, he decided to go for it, slipping his feet out of his footwear. And despite his skepticism, the moment his bare skin touched the ground, he was greeted with grass growing around him and between his toes. "Wh-Whoa... I'm really doing that?!" The shock and excitement in his voice couldn't be contained! He was really growing plants from nothing! Knuckles smirked and nodded, raising a finger. "And that's just your natural power bleeding out from your feet. Just think if you--" Of course, with his unpredictable nature, Sonic cut him off with an excited dash. "Well then, time to put these bad boys to the test! Whoo!!" With a whoop, he started to run, each step creating a new patch of grass and flowers. He was pumped! Being a nature lover, the idea of going Hyper and running about barefoot to regrow a field was the perfect way to spend his afternoon. His actions left him unaware of his red friend, who proceeded to cross his arms and watch. Despite being interrupted, a smirk and a blush crossed his face at the sight. "That idiot has no clue what he's doing... at least he's enjoying it though." It was always worth it to see Sonic happy and not just being a cocky little brat. "...Have to admit, so am I." But that was something Sonic didn't need to know. |
