that hole instead of an eye seems to be part of HIS appearance, it probably has some kind if symbolic meaning, showing the void of infinity or something. Gods are weird like that. You might have to go all the way back to ancient epic tales about how the gods came to be and battles between them and such.
I don't think it indicates that theres a bigger monster just round the corner ;)
