Koudelka, Devi, Aria, and all mentioned characters (c) Ketzio and Gbb

Takes place specifically after

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was at the early hem of morning when Devi's phone woke her abruptly. She had been sleeping soundly with Koudelka and, despite being smaller, was comfortably in the position of being the Big Spoon. Her face was buried in springy golden hair as she forced her eyelids to slowly flutter open against a cascade of locks. The warmth of body heat, blankets, and fur on fur made the prospect of reaching out for her phone miserable and yet her phone still went off.
Hoot. Hoot. Clank. Clank. Creak. Thunder.
The name of Devi's ringtone was 'Hauntedhouse01'; the sound of a creaky fence, owls, banging of shudders, and the stock movie lightning sound. It was a witchy cacophony of noise that Devi original found novel and cute but had grown to harbor hate for. Why hadn't she just set it to vibrate like every other person?
Probably because so few people actually called her. Texting is preferable.
Somehow, through the creepy and kooky ringtone, Koudelka had managed to stay angelically asleep. Even as Devi physically pried herself away and toppled out of the futon and onto the trailer floor with a hollow clatter -- Kody maintained a beautiful and serene , albeit slightly drool-y, sleep. An atomic bomb probably couldn't wake the sleepy little culpeo.
The phone was high up on the near night table and Devi blindly pulled it down onto the floor, dropping a few paperback books that had been precariously perched on the ledge of the table along with it. Her light blue eyes could barely crack open to assess if the books were okay. Bothering to read the number that was calling was absurd.
She tapped the call button and answered the phone.
"Hello?" Devi said. Her voice typically had a raspy quality but being forced to wake up put her vocal fry on the same frequency as a motorcycle engine.
"Hey Debbie! Ah sorry, did I wake you up?" The familiar voice of her biological mother spoke before adding with slight hesitation. "I just... had sort of assumed you would be getting up for school. It's 6:30."
"Fuuuuck..." Devi groaned. "Yeah, I super almost forgot about school. Weird weekend and I didn't set an alarm."
"Well, why didn't your dad wake you up? That would be the responsible thing to do," her mom was clearly ignoring the cussword. "Even Jericho should be mature enough to make sure you get to class. Considering how important these first few weeks are to adapt to a new school. I'm sure they've been probably letting you miss a lot of school, which is totally not your fault, but I would expect them to know better."
"Things have been happening..." Devi sat up fully to look at her still-sleeping girlfriend. 2 atom bombs probably couldn't disrupt her sleep.
"Well... what kind of things? Why do these things stop you from going to school?" Devi's mom said with a disappointed tone, "I know that alternative lifestyles can be problematic in more rural areas like out there in Trouville, but it's no excuse to let you muck up your education."
"It's not really important and I'm going to school today, I just woke up a little late is all." Devi groaned with annoyance and looked around for her shirt. "What do you want...Harriet?"
Devi was rarely inclined to call this woman 'mom' or 'mother', or even 'Aunt Harriet' and getting woken up to this level of guilt and lecturing certainly deserved a plain 'Harriet'.
"You know Debbie, you can call me mom, I am your mom after all," Harriet said. "I'm not trying to get on your case, I'm just annoyed that they aren't helping you in a good way. Though I was a kid too, not that long ago, and I understand that stuff happens and stuff gets really weird.'
"Sorry... mom." Devi murmured in shame. "It's been a long week is all and I'm really all over the place right now."
"You can tell me what's wrong," Harriet said is a maternal way, but came off more condescending. "Are you still thinking about coming back to Seapoint?... For a visit?"
"Is that why you called?" Devi asked and slid a hand along her sleeping companions back.
"You seemed very intent on coming back last time we spoke and.." Harriet paused. "...And I would like to spend time with you. They'll be having the gay pride thing in a few weeks and I know that you really enjoyed going to those every year."
"Seapoint Pride is pretty great, it's like the circus but way less rapey," Devi smirked.
"Deb!" Her mom scoffed in amused shock. "Don't say such things."
Devi snickered.
"I said I would consider it mom, to be honest though, I still have a lot to think about...  I really need to get ready for school now," Devi added, feeling deep sad pangs of nostalgia and a sudden longing for her ex.
"I love you" Harriet said but Devi hung up without a reply.
Devi knew her mom didn't care for 'pride' and she knew this was all just some bizarre attempt to get Devi back home, and even though she could rationalize it and see the manipulation, for some reason it still hurt and still bothered her.
It stung but there was no time to mope because she had to get ready for school.
~~
Devi took a quick shower as her morning coffee brewed as she listened to the morning radio. Forecast calls for light wind and rain as the Trouville storm must of liked our little port so much it felt like sticking around longer.
Perfect. Another cold-ass wet day.
The bunny dried off during the traffic report and managed to get dressed before the 'what's new in fishing' segment that she was certain all lakeside towns probably had. She tapped the radio off and left the bathroom in a cloud of steam and angst. Surprisingly, even though the living room had been empty before her shower, now it was inhabited. Curtis sat in his silk button up pajamas, he was leaning back on one of the recliner chairs and had a book resting against his chubby belly. In the kitchen area of the trailer's living room, Aria sat on a stool with her backpack at her side as she gobbled down a bowl of Devi's health-food cereal, covered with globs of health-food-defying sugar.
Devi nodded quietly at each of them and walked over to the counter to fill her school thermos with coffee.
"Deviii, Devi-nito- Devi-d Eggs - Devi Davito~" Area cooed at a voice that was barely quieter than her normal speaking voice, specks of healthy oat cereal falling from her mouth.
"What?" Devi replied in a much more soft and calmer voice.
"Is the living herpy coming to school with us today?" Aria asked and Devi shot daggers from her eyes frantically pointing to her dad who was less than 20 feet away. "What's wrong, are you afraid your dad will think Kou-Kou has herpies? Relax... I said she is herpies, not that she has them."
"So like, the only thing stopping me from stabbing you with the dozens of knives all around us is the fact that I love the name Kou-Kou... and I'm gonna start using it now so--" Devi snarked before being cut-off.
"Don't threaten your friends with stabbing, hon," Curtis succinctly spoke from behind his book.
"Agh, she started it," Devi whined to deaf ears and turned back to see Aria's grin. "No, to answer your question, I dont think it would be very smart for Kody to go back to school yet."
"Okay bucko..." Aria twiddled her thumbs with a faux-innocent tone "So whaddaya think they're gonna say about her though? At the candle light vigil? Everyone goes to school in black and mourns miss popular. 20 bucks says they've already put up a monument to her."
"it's barely been a few days, I doubt they will go that far yet," Devi sighed with a small ounce of worry. She certainly had no idea what they might think about Kody.
"Personally, I'da had a pizza party to celibrate her going 'missing' but that was before my best friend started dating her. Uh, I guess that means that if she was missing for real, and you were upset about it... then... I'd be looking for her."
Devi squinted her eyes in suspicion. "That was a weirdly sweet thing to say, Aria."
"I know, huh. Devi you really are a jerk. You take away my pizza party and make me look for my greatest enemy." Aria pouted.
"Oh yeah baby, that was me. Seriously though? Your biggest enemy? I'm pretty sure you've complained more about girls on your team than Koudelka," Devi mused.
"Those are rivals, huge difference, though to be fair I would pizza party for them going missing too."
"Would you girls like a ride to school?" Curtis interjected.
"Nah," Devi stared at Aria as she spoke, "I think I need to have a moral discussion with my best friend about how missing girls shouldn't equate to a pizza party occasion."
"Missing girl means one less jerk, and one less jerk means more pizza for me!" Aria snickered.
"Come on dog-brain!" Devi groaned and snatched Aria by the backpack, dragging her toward the door.
~~
The walk had been slow and uneventful with Aria dominating most of the conversation up until they hit the school gates, where Aria disappeared off to find her significant other. Devi really didn't mind being alone though, especially considering how much her mom and worrying about Koudelka was twisting her up.
She walked -- both hands clutching her large silver thermos and watched as the small groups of kids gathered at their classes and various hang out spots. She kept her head low and walked quietly toward the gymnasium; hoping that at this hour no one would be out there yet and she could maybe get some morning reading and texting in. The urge to reach out to her ex was a little heavy. Nova was pretty good to complain to.
Devi hadn't been paying much attention as she walked face-first into a wall of thick lioness meat. Ruby stood menacing in the gray morning light, and her hench-rat, Sarah, lingered at her side. Both had only the faintest trace of being in a fight; a slight faded scar, the whisper of a few bruises and a row of butterfly bandages above Sarah's right eye.
The small bunny gulped hard and staggered back, wishing she had paid more attention and Christ! Her beanie!
Devi was wearing her beanie, the beanie that brought down so much wrath and put so much both terrible and wonderful into motion. There was no one near and even if there was she had no voice left to scream. All of Devi's saliva dried up and she felt her eyes widen in fear.
"Sorry," Devi could here herself mumbling and felt control leaving her body as her knees shook. "I didn't see you there."
Why didn't they reply?
They stood silently, hand on hips, and looked at her. They looked through her. But were they assessing her fate?
Devi stepped to the side and tried to keep walking toward the gym, when Ruby's hand abruptly shot out and hooked her arm; holding Devi in place.
"Please don't hurt me," Devi whisper-begged with tears suddenly rolling down her cheeks.
"I'm not going to hurt you," Ruby growled and slightly loosened her grip. Devi could see Sarah pensively fidgetting around while looking down near hallways.
'They're going to prison-stab me,' Devi thought. 'And no one will even know or care here.'
"The fight I had with your friend.." Ruby said slowly; her words methodical and rehearsed. Devi suddenly realized that they were probably following her and waiting to spring out while she was distracted and alone. Here comes the stabbing and then hello darkness my old friend.
"Aria?" Devi meekly mumbled.
"Yes. She was sent by you or did she go on her own?" Ruby's eyes fixated on Devi's like cold sapphire embers.
"I dunno..." Devi cried. "I-I... told Kody and she-"
"Cody?" Sarah cut in.
"K-Koudelka..." Devi sobbed.
"The missing girl?" Ruby asked and her voiced sounded suddenly less pro wrestling ring-talk and more confused and a little-horrified.
"I g-guess so..." Devi blubbered before incoherently adding, still hopping to maintain Koudelkas mystery. "She is m-missing?"
"I um.." Ruby looked perplexed and weirdly cute for a moment before her featured hardened and she tried to maintain her toughness. "That doesn't matter right now, I need to tell you something..."
Devi tensed up hard seeing Sarah dig in her pocket to pull out something. This was it, a strike in the neck a little blood spray and then hello darkness.
Sarah pulled out a small white box instead; only slightly larger than a ring box. Were they about to propose to her?
Fuck, was it going to be a finger of someone she loved to tell her not to mess with them?
"I was being shitty to you because I had a really shit day, everyone has been making fun of me... for being fat and tall... and strong... they call me a lesbian because of that and because of that everyone says you and I are dating," Ruby's grip slightly loosened more and Devi dould feel blood rushing back into her arm finally. "Then your friend defended you, and that was really good of her. I hate this bully shit and besides Sarah, no one is sticking by me lately..."
"I'm sorry," Devi whispered and felt more tears coming on.
"it's not about me, kid. So I got suspended, I got yelled at, at home, and then my boyfriend dumped me. He said it was because he can't deal with knowing I got into a fight, but I think he was looking for an excuse. No one wants to date an ogre... Whatever. Look I'm sorry okay."
A huge tear rolled down Ruby's cheek as she fully let Devi go.
"I don't hate gay people," Ruby muttered shyly. "And I'm not a bully so I... we... Sarah and me... we bought you this offline to make up for breaking one of your pins. I'm sorry."
Sarah opened the box and inside glistened and enamel pin: a rainbow colored bean.
"It's a les-bean," Sarah spoke softly with a goofy smile.
Devi took the box in her trembling hands and looked at it in awe. Slowly she examed it completely and then up at each girls' sad and guilty face.
"This is cool," Devi chirped and closed the box; hugging it tightly to her chest.
"Well, if I was gay, I would have been fine to fake go out with you.," Ruby mumbled and then awkwardly cleared her throat. "Though just to be clear, I'm absolutely not, and I have zero interest in you at all in that way."
"That's okay, I have a girlfriend anyways," Devi frantically pawed at her own eyes trying to wipe up her tears.
"Is it the dog bitch?" Sarah asked earnestly.
"Aria? Oh fuck no!" Devi laughed and wiped away the rest of her tears. "Thank you though... this means a lot, no one at my old school would have had the balls to apologize like this and--"
"Is it the missing girl you mentioned?" Ruby asked.
"Why does it matter," Devi blushed hard. "No no no- it's a teacher."
"Oh shit it was the missing girl?" Sarah chimed in.
"No, like I said it's a teacher---'s aid," Devi mumbled and before she or they could respond a new voice chimed in from behind her.
"What about a teacher, Ms. Randelle?" She spun around to see the tall portly bear principle looming over them. At his side two gorgeous and preppy girls stood with hands full of flyers and sad expressions.
"Nothing." Devi said somberly.
"Have you heard from Koudelka lately?" He asked.
Devi shot him a bewildered look.
"Why would I have heard from her?" Devi snarked.
"Well because you and her were study partners and--" He started before the girl closest to his side cut in.
"Because she was reported missing several days ago and any information would be really helpful," The girl spoke in a quivering voice. Her strawberry blonde hair was familiar from one of Devi's classes... either Lily or Lilac or something, either way she was clearly upset. Lily/Lilac/or something presented Devi with a flyer.
The girl and the other girl were Kody's friends and they were obviously upset and the flyer was a missing poster for her. Devi felt like massive shit.
"L-last time I talked to her... she seemed pretty okay to me. She said somethign about a camping trip or .... I dunno." It wasn't lying, but it also wasn't the truth, but it felt shitty saying it.
The principle nodded acceptingly. "Thank you Devi, please be safe and if you remember anything else or need anyone to talk to about this, my office is always open."
Koudelka's friends turned away first with no snark or sarcasm, just sadness. They walked slowly and together and held their flyers closely before disappearing further up the hallway.
"Is everything okay here, Devi?" The Principle asked, eyeing Ruby and Sarah who now stood at either side of Devi.
"Oh, yeah, I was going to ask them to get some breakfast with me or something" Devi glanced to Ruby who replied with a half shrug. "I... really hope Koudelka is okay though."
"I'm sure she is, girls like Koudelka are very smart and resourceful. If anything she probably just needed a few day vacation from her dad." He cleared his throat. "Please do not repeat that..."
"Gotcha" Devi winked and placed the flyer into her bag, watching as the principle slowly lumbered back towards where Kody's friends went.
 "You know if you're serious about doing breakfast, Sarah's family owns a bakery and she usually has a box of cinnamon rolls in her backpack." Ruby glanced at Devi from the corner of her eye.
"I usually sell the leftovers to the 6th graders for a couple of bucks, but I guess we can share them," Sarah sighed.
"Wait, you guys... want to hang out with me, what about the whole 'people thinking we're dating' thing?"
"I'm a foot taller than everyone and 50 to 100 pounds heavier, they already hate me," Ruby grumbled.
"Well I guess hanging out with me makes you look super tolerant and better than them too.... like "fuck you, I'm open minded and not listening to your stereotypes'" Devi snicker giggled- fastening her new pin to her beanie.
"That's a really manipulative and shifty idea," Sarah added. "You're cramping on my gig."
~~
The day had gone by at a laborious pace: No Koudelka to sneak-off for secret kiss sessions, Aria seemingly busy with her sports nonsense, and Ruby and Sarah were already quite distant to anything Devi could honestly consider 'a friend'. A great deal of time, Devi could only manage to stare idly outside and count the minutes of the day.
Once the final bell rang, Devi waited at her seat for the flood of other students to leave. She glanced over her phone, nothing new or exciting, and thumbed up and down her small contact list. Maybe she ought to reach out to her friend Bea sometime, considering they hadn't spoke in a week, or maybe she should text Nova, just to get an update on how things were going Seapoint-side.
As the last few students finally drifted out of the class, she grabbed her bag and made for the door; stopping very briefly to eye a flyer that hung beside it. 'Have you seen me, Koudelka Pavlov. Please call etc etc etc..."
~~
Aria stood waiting for Devi beside the main gate into school; a look of chilling bewilderment  plastered across her face. Devi approached slowly, curiously looking about for a cause of this expression. Apart from the clutter of kids waiting for rides and a couple of teachers watching them leave, there was nothing else of note.
"Hey?" Devi questioned as she stepped closer.
"There you are. What took you so long, Bunnito?" Aria said quizzically and glanced passed Devi and back to the halls. "You.. uh... didn't happen to see Piper, did ya?"
"Can't say I was looking for him. But, no. I didn't see him at all today, or at least I didn't notice him. Why?"
"Well fuck me. I know he went to school today, I saw him, but for some reason he's avoiding me, he barely talked to me at all last night either and was acting really stupid. I should find him and kick him." Aria squinted.
"Kicking is the solution and cause of most of your troubles," Devi rolled her eyes and balanced her backpack from one sholder and onto the other. "Can we get going though? I'm pretty tired. I'm sure Piper is just being a weirdo, most boys are weird like that."
"Because you're very experienced with boys now?" Aria raised a bushy eyebrow. "But whatever, his loss I guess, and I am getting really hungry."
"Ah yes, your bottomless black hole of a stomach needs more food eh, you know that's going to catch up with you right."
"Bitch, I barely get to eat and I'm super active so my lifestyle trumps your food worries!" Aria snickered. "Are you ready?"
"Yeah let's get out of here."
They both began to walk out toward the parking lot.
"Hey Dev, Imma hang out with you when we get home," Aria remarked. "That cool?"
"I suppose," Devi half-shrugged.
"Yeah! Hype shit here we come," Aria tossed her arms up in a gesture. As if on queue the sky burst into a fresh smattering of raindrops that clattered the nearby cars and sent some of the other remaining student back under awnings. Devi and Aria just kept walking.
Devi glanced up Aria, who despite the rain, was dressed in a tank top and shorts. There was a  few fresh bruises on her arms and... a black eye she didn't notice until now.
"I thought your battle scars were fading, it's been like a week," Devi remarked and tapped on Aria's discolored markings as they reached the first crosswalk out of school.
"If you mean the bruises I got from mammoth Ruby and rat-girl, then yeah, mostly those are healed. These are from soccer today," Aria grinned her gap tooth smile while beaming with pride.
"But it's been raining on and off so the field is all muddy and shit," Devi said and glanced back at the school yard. A couple of sixth graders were hopping around in puddles at the track area and a couple kissed beside the fence.
"Exactly!"Aria chuckled. "This is gangsta ass hood soccer, bitches get fucked in the mud! You'd like it, it's hot."
"You don't look very muddy," Devi gave her another once over look.
"Bitch, I showered and changed afterwords?? You'd've liked that too, it was also hot!" Aria proudly stated. "You love my dents."
"You changed into... another pair of PE clothes?" Devi looked at the logo on the front. "Wait a minute, is this from your other fuckin school? Also, what the fu-- why the fuck would they even let you guys play in a field like that?! That's how broken bones and shit happens!" Devi gestured back to articulate her point and Aria glanced at the splashy kids and the kissy teens behind them.
"Yeyeye, Judge Drake Middle School~ It was better, you know." Aria nodded.
"I don't doubt it."
"Also, they didn't 'let' us fuck around in the mud. Me and a couple of the girls had to stay in practice so we chose to keep going without the teacher knowing... I'm not fucking 4, y'know, sitting in a gym doing stretches and playing with a parachute is kinda bullshit."
"I think the parachute is kinda fun," Devi grinned.
"Says the 4 year old! But yeah most of these are from moshing in the mud with my gals, though I still got some faded wounds from fighting that feral tit-beast, Ruby. Fat girls can hit like a mother fucker, but their meat stick ass arms are two slow for my spry ass," Aria boxed the air in excitement.
"Thanks for sticking up for me... even though I don't think Ruby is all that bad, you did knock some conscience into her... she apologized today and gave me a pin," Devi tapped the bean pin on her hat. "And they had breakfast with me too."
"Did you guys fist fuck or something?" Aria scowled with a squint.
"Oh yeah, she used me and Sarah like puppets on each arm and forced us to fuck by ramming us into each other. For such huge forearms I'm shocked she got all the way up to the elbow in both of us," Devi rolled her eyes.
"Okay, you say gross shit and think it's going to effect me, but I think the idea of you being massively penetrated is a little hot... so I just visualize 2 dicks with you and Sarah instead and , boom, you just made porn for me to enjoy, congrats lesbo, your shockness is weak," Aria smuggly scoffed and balanced her backpack to her other arm; stopping to lean against a nearby fence.
"So... you're picturing Ruby with dick arms or something?" Devi stopped as well and turned to face Aria with a perplexed look.
"..." Aria thoughtfully rested her head back against the knotty wood of the fence and tapped a finger to her lips. "You shouldn't have eaten breakfast with them, they probably did gross shit to your food like spit in it or got hobos to cum in it or something."
"You always say 'hobos' like Trouville has a hobo epidemic or something, and besides, I thought of that, luckily I don't eat junkfood like cinnamon rolls." Devi nodded. "Also good job thinking me getting fucked is hot, lesbo."
"Ugh, you shut the f--WAIT THEY GOT CINNAMON ROLLS? Fuck that I would have drank their spit and taken all the hobo cum for that, lucky bitch, all the school had was fucking cold toaster tarts and little juice flavored juice boxes." Aria enviously growled and pulled her pack to her front to dig around for something. "What did Ruby even want?"
Aria pulled out a water bottle of sugary sports drink.
"Mostly... she seems angry that she's alone and single, it's really weird, but I kept getting this raw horny vibe from her and Sarah, like not horny for me at all, but like I think they really wanna be sexed with." Devi spoke and watched as Aria sucked down most of the beverage in one long breathless gulp. "I dunno, it's something about how they talked and acted, they definitely seem to think that people like Koudelka's friends are always out partying and humping though."
"That's cause they are, Trouville teens dont do anything besides hump and fight. I think it's cause our internet sucks. Also if I looked like a rhino's ballsack like Ruby, or a fucking mangy slice of onion loaf like Sarah, I would totally be desperate for anyone to get off for me. I pity the guy that ends up being the meat in that rancid sandwich though."
"I dunno, I was wondering if one of your 'dates' might actually be interested in that," Devi shifted her weight from foot-to-foot. "It might be good for you to bond with your enemy over penis."
"My 'dates'?!" Aria basked in self righteous and exaggerated indignation. "All of those guys are just mutual friends who happen to have a shared interest in.... ugh... you weirdo... whatever, next time I'll ask if any of them want to go hip-to-hip with a safari's worth of meaty lard, maybe someone will be willing to take a slip and slide of pastrami and gross. Heh, maybe I'll get extra lucky and they'll film it, so that way when she inevibably tries to fuck with you I can have some black mail to fall back on beside the ass beating."
Devi abruptly hugged Aria tightly, her small body was radiant with heat and her arms were strong for a tiny thing. Aria blushed hard seemingly for no reason.
"What the hell is this gay shit for?" Aria mumbled and gently put her arms around Devi.
"Because you're my best friend and you stood up for me like you did... and you're still worried about me. It's really sweet," Devi cooed softly.
"Well I love you bucko, not in a gross way, but you're my best friend too," Aria tightened her grip for a moment before letting Devi go.
Devi stepped back, and noticed for some random reason Aria was looking away.
"You're super lucky because normally when someone catches me off guard like that I would probably end up throwing them across the stratosphere," Aria mumbled.
"Ah yeah, you are a kung fu masta!" Devi sarcasticly laughed and began walking down he street.
 Aria paused for a moment, relishing the affection and the warmth that left her. It took a few moments before realizing Devi was nearly half a block away.
"ACTUALLY MY FIGHTING STYLE IS KRAV MAGA!" Aria sprinted to catch up. "IF YOU SAW ME FUCK UP MAMMOTH GIRL AND ONION RAT THEN YOU'D KNOW"
~~
As Devi and Aria turned to walk into the the trailer park, the storm had lightened to mild sprinkling rain and a very subtle wind. Several of the neighboring trailers were teaming with life and activity as families gathered on porches and in living rooms to cook and watch TV. Small groups of children bravely toughed out the drizzle to play; sploshing around the gravel drive.
The walk had mostly been pretty quiet in it's last half, as both girls had been in the recesses of their individual thoughts. The nagging feeling about Koudelka being 'missing' was disturbing and upsetting for Devi considering how unsure she was about their future. When would someone notice who she was and where she was?
Upon approaching the trailer Devi saw that her dads where packing up the car with a couple of small weekened suitcases. Curtis stood near the trunk; frantically going through each bag and looking as though he was taking mental stock of each thing and was likely preparing a list of grievances regarding whatever trip they where planing. 'I told you we needed to bring both shampoos, did you bring the taser? What if a satanic hitchhiker attacks us, then our hair would smell not as great and we would have no taser to incapacitate him with!'
Jericho walked briskly from the house, catching the girls in the corner of his eye and offering a wry smile and a slight wave before tossing another bag, much to his husbands chagrin, into the backseat. With a nod to the elder bunny, Jericho walked back towards the house, passing by Koudelka, who nursed a cup of chocolate milk and oversaw the chaos.
"She has chocolate milk. I want chocolate milk! Can I have chocolate milk?!" Aria whined once they were in earshot.
"Help yourself, dear," Curtis' worried expression contorted briefly into a smile.
"What's wrong, dad?" Devi asked and stepped toward the car.
"Well, Jericho had the 'briliant'--" he paused to emphasive the sarcasm. "Idea that you girls should get a day or two to yourselves, so in his iridescent wisdom he volunteered my days off to go to the AmberTell Casino in the next county."
"Oh noooo, forced vacation," Devi rolled her eyes. "but Dad, who will cut the crust off my toast."
"My Daddy loves the AmberTell," Aria said, "he goes there all the time, he used to take me when I was a baby but... I guess being a kid in a casino is fine but suddenly as a teenager I'm not as welcomed."
Aria pondered and, without waiting for an answer, began walking toward the trailer.
"I get it Dev," Curtis shrugged, closing the bag in front of him. "and I know you are smart and it's okay you being a little independent, but I don't like leaving you home alone overnight, much less for 2 nights and much less while I'm over 50 miles away."
"And with her girlfriend in the house~" Aria added with a singsong tone.
"But!" Jericho cut in while approaching again; ignoring Aria. "I know you have some real important things you need to work out with Kody, and I extra know that you would probably like the time with her, incase she... did... you know."
"Die?!" Devi gasped horrified.
"No, if she did go back to be with her dad. Devi, she is scared and she needs you, soooo, I convinced Bunnybuns to take me out, especially to a town that might not burn us alive if we happen to smooch a little over dinner."
"That's really gross," Devi sighed. "Was she talking about... that? You didn't forcefully bring it up like an asshole did you? Because if you did I swear-"
"She talked to us," Curtis cut in. "It's not our place to interfere, but for some reason she is really afraid to go home. If there is a reason, Dev, you can tell us and we will try-"
"I know," Devi whispered. "Thank you for letting us have a little time alone."
"Well about that," Jericho chuckled and then let out a loud whistle. "Hey Aria?!"
Aria popped her head out of the trailer a cup of milk in one hand and a cup of dark brown chocolate milk in the other.
"I only got two cups cause the first one was too chocolatey so the second cup is to balance it out," Aria said, walking forward and taking on a desperate pity tone.
"Nah, it's not that," Jericho smiled. "I want you to keep an eye out on Devi and Koudelka; even stay the night if you have to, give them space to talk it out, but I trust you to swing a bat incase any rapist show up."
"I don't need a babysit-" Devi started.
"Yeyeyey!" Aria exclaimed. "I can behead a sucker with a bat! You got one? Preferably unused?"
"I set it in the container by the door with the umbrellas," Jericho grinned. "You can help yourself to anything, as long as you promise to give Dev and Kody the space they need when they need it. We even put fresh sheets on our bed for you, in case you wanted to use it."
"And we'll pay you," Curtis added. "So that way you have a reason to be vigilant. But remember you're not a babysitter, you're a bodyguard. Also, if anything happens to my baby, I'm not gonna pay you."
"A bodyguard!" Aria's eyes lit up. "Heck yeah! Finally I get to show off my Krav Maga to Devi!"
The golden retriever excitedly ran back to the trailer, sprinting by Koudelka, who comedically tried to shield herself, and the book she was reading, from Aria's spilling milk.
"That's stupid," Devi grunted.
"Aria needs this, her dirtbag father has been gone for days and I want you to look out for her, make sure she gets fed and stuff," Jericho said sternly. "Besides, I legitmately feel like that girl would really know how to bring down an intruder with a bat. I wouldn't be surprised if she's done that already, really."
"Fine," Devi sighed. "She is my best friend and I think Koudelka is warming up to her, so it's not all that bad to have her around... plus I'm going to need someone to eat all the crap I might make if I end up stress baking again... the idea of Kody leaving has me... on edge."
"I know Dev," Curtis sighed and hugged her closely.
~~
After Curtis and Jericho had left, Devi had made her 2 guests and herself a vegetarian lasagna. Aria, despite her protests for the lack of meat, still had several helpings. They spent the better half of their afternoon avoiding the elephant in the room -- probably because of Aria's presence but also probably because neither one of them knew how to breach the topic of being a missing teenager.
Koudelka was quiet but she'd still smile and act fine whenever Devi gave her attention. Aria, on the other hand, was her usual oblivious self. Devi knew that Aria had settled in at this point because she was now restlessly roaming the living room and spinning around so her braided ponytail could twirl around her body.
After finishing the dishes, Devi took a spot in front of the couch and sat on the floor across from Koudelka who was lying on her stomach and picking at the carpet.
Aria, as if acknowledging that the pack leader had settled down so she should as well, also took a spot near the two girls.
There was a bit of an awkward silence until Devi broke it.
"How's that carpet treating you?" she said with a half-grin.
"It's soft and I like it." Koudelka muttered into her arm. "You guys keep it very clean."
"It probably wasn't that bad even before Devi moved in," Aria lifted a knee to her chest as she sat. "There was an old wheelchair lady who used to live here and she didn't have no feet so... no dirty feet, no dirty carpet."
"Even if Aria's amputee story is true..." Devi sideglanced Aria, "...I think they would've switched out the carpets after she moved out."
"I guess I never much had close experience with carpets," Koudelka said; continuing to futz with the fibers. "My home is mostly tile and wood paneling."
"Why are we talking about carpets?" Aria raised her voice. "Oh, right. Lesbians. Still, let's talk about something eeelse."
"Like what?" Devi inquired; bringing both of her knees up to her chest.
"Well uh..." Aria poked a finger to her lip. "...we could ask what-ifs?"
"Yeah, because hypotheticals are productive." Koudelka rolled her eyes as she buried her face between her crossed arms.
"Oookay Aria, what would be your 'what-if' then?" Devi asked.
"Alright, so, you're gay but like..." Aria leaned forward. "...what would it take for you to let a guy get all up in you? Like I'm talkin' dick in every hole like at least once, girl."
Koudelka audibly groaned.
"Well," Devi stared up at the ceiling. "If I ever knew a guy that was basically my straight soulmate -- like if we aligned on every possible thing and I adored him, then maybe I'd go straight for someone like that. Or if Kody turned out to have a penis, that'd be okay."
"I MOST CERTAINLY DO NOT!" Koudelka had the goofiest mortified look. "I would die if I had one of those things."
"...Oooor, if someone was threatening to kill Koudelka and the only way I could save her is by having sex with a guy. That too." Devi continued, "Or, if, and I know this wouldn't happen, but if Kody wanted to experiment with a third person who happened to be a guy then I wouldn't mi--"
"Ugh! Stop it!" Koudelka squeaked. "Why are you being so primevil?!"
"Yeah, that!" Aria pointed at Koudelka. "Primevil! That sounds bad."
"That's not what I meant to say, dogbreath!"
"Either way, good answers Devi! What about you, foxy?" Aria now leaned closer to Koudelka; taking a low and sultry tone.
"Never!" Koudelka furiously shook her head. "Never ever!"
"Not even if someone was threatening to kill me?" Devi feigned tears.
"But then I'd call the police, sweetie!" Koudelka whined. "That's what they're foooor!"
"Okay, okay," Aria stifled her laughter. "What if it was the POLICE who threatened to kill Devi if you didn't fuck all of them?"
"WHY WOULD THE POLICE DO SUCH A THING?!" Koudelka paused for a moment. "AND WHY SUDDENLY ALL OF THEM? FIRST IT WAS ONE OF THEM, NOW ALL?"
"I think your indecision made them mad, Kody." Devi chimed in.
"That makes sense to me!" Aria laughed.
"Well then, still, no!" Koudelka pouted and buried her face in her arms again.
"Oh, so you'd let me die?" Devi said with fake indignation.
"Well... yeah!" Koudelka shot her head back up and nearly shouted. "If they lied about how many were going to do filthy things to me and are ALSO the police, then why would they honor their agreement and keep you alive?!"
"...huh." Devi lifted an eyebrow then turned to Aria. "She has a point."
"Princess is just a cowardly prude," Aria scoffed. "If you were in trouble like that, I'd kill my celibacy vow. Or try killing them. One or the other. You know there's like 15 ways you could incapacitate a man if he was doing his thing to you. Like, if the guy is dumb enough to try getting you to give him a blowjob in a situation like this then you could just--"
"STOP!" Koudelka squealed; her voice muffled from her hiding her face once again.
"Aww, what a white knight you are." Devi prodded at Aria with a grin.
"Ew, don't look at me like that lesbo."
"Alright, so," Devi ignored Aria's comment. "quip pro ko, Aria."
"Quick pro... what?" Aria cocked her head to the side.
"She means 'quid pro quo'," Koudelka's muffled voice interjected.
"Yeah, that." Devi said. "QUID PRO QUO! What would it take for you to fuck another girl?"
"Ugh, of course you'd ask me that." Aria raspberried. "You probably just wanna get off to the image."
"You literally just... uuugh, dogbrain." Koudelka sighed.
"Yeah, well, it's a different story for me because girls and girls don't have compatible plumbing so it doesn't even count." Aria made sex gestures with her hands. "So if I wanted to, not that I would, it wouldn't be anything -- it'd be boring and dumb and it wouldn't matter."
"That's a shame." Devi said. "And here I was going to invite you into my harem."
"Your what?!" Aria and Koudelka replied in unison.
"I tease, I tease." Devi waved her hand. "No, but, there is serious emotional and spiritual element to sex even if it's with another girl."
"Not to me." Aria huffed.
"So, if I offered you $50 for sex, you wouldn't care?" Devi cooed.
"N-" Aria paused for a fraction of a second. "Nope! Wouldn't matter."
"Yeah, well that's not happening." Koudelka squinted her eyes at Aria.
"Pfft, ok. Either way, I don't go for the cheap ones." Devi nodded. "$100 or more. That's where the class is."
"Why am I going out with you?" Koudelka rubbed her forehead.
"Because I'm supah cuuuute." Devi pulled out the squeakiest voice she could muster.
"OKAY, NEW WHAT-IF!" Aria cut in; apparently sick of their banter. "Devi, if you did let a guy fuck you, what kind of guy would it be? Like a Piper or like... a super big and buff guy or a super chubby guy? Also would you let them like... cum on your face or do you not like that kind of thing?"
"What? I dunno." Devi sighed. "Either way, guys are gross. My ex used to preach the bi-gospel quite a bit but it never stuck with me."
"Your ex must've been cooler than you then," Aria muttered. "Besides, it's only a what-if. Okay uhh. What if it was just Piper? Like... actually him? And you let him fuck you and cum on your face? Since I'm Piper's girlfriend I'd just need to like... watch you guys to make sure it's not lovey-dovey so that'd be fine."
"That's kind of... weird and specific." Koudelka chastised as she momentarily lifted herself to her knees.
"Whatever," Aria groaned. "Just answer it!"
"Eh, Piper is a cutiepie of a guy but he's not my type." Devi responded as she stood to her feet. "Actually, the more I think about it, the more I don't even think it'd be straight. Have you seen Piper's rockin' babymaking hips?"
"That was mean," Aria's brow furrowed. "Don't say stuff like that about him."
"Oh, uh, I'm sorry." Devi earnestly responded. "I was just joking around."
"Meh." Aria sulked. "It's cool. He's too good for you two anyways."
"You 'two'?" Koudelka snapped. "I want no part of him and I want no part of this conversation."
"Don't worry, I'm saving you from this convo right now." Devi knelt down and kissed Koudelka on the cheek. "Sorry for making you uncomfortable, hun."
"I-I don't mind." Koudelka blushed.
"Vooooomit." Aria stuck a finger half-way into her mouth.
With a humorous glance at Aria, Devi skipped to her room for a moment and reemerged with a guitar and a bag of seaweed chips.
"So, what do you guys wanna do tonight?" Devi asked while juggling the guitar and snacks on her way back to her sitting spot.
"If you guys uh... wanted to be alone, I could leave or something." Aria bashfully stated. "I'd totally get it if you guys wanted to do your... gross things."
Devi observed Aria's tentative body language then glanced at Koudelka.
"I'm not objected to you staying," Koudelka replied after reading Devi's look.
"Yeah, my dad did put fresh sheets on the beds so you're kinda stuck here." Devi chuckled a bit.
Aria smiled her big goofy gap-tooth smile. "Thank youuuu. Plus, I wouldn't mind sleeping in the other room so you guys can do all your weirdo girl kissing shit."
"The more you say stuff like that, the more I feel like you'd spy on us." Koudelka shuddered.
"FUCK OFF, PRINCESS. THAT'S GROSS!" Aria snapped so fast that her floppy dog ears bounced around. "Besiiiides, you guys seem to think that if I did weirdo shit with a girl then it'd be with one of you two. I have options, you know."
"Oh? Sounds like you put thought into this then." Devi raised an eyebrow as she noodled with her guitar; shooting Aria a smug smile.
"No! But, I have standards." Aria waved her hands around Devi's frame. "You're not toned, athletic or tall! And frankly, I'd probably at LEAST want big jubblies or some shit."
Devi began to retort but was interrupted again by Aria.
"Yeah, and before you say anything, big boobs are better than none and that's just a universal fact."
"Well, no, I was about to say I knew an older girl you'd probably be into but whatever." Devi rolled her eyes.
"Wait w--" Aria stopped herself as the two girls immediately stared at her with baited breath. "I mean... I'm just... I'm not talking to either of you for the rest of the night, ugh."
"...for a homophobic girl, Aria sure talks about lesbian stuff a lot." Koudelka reflected as if Aria wasn't in the room anymore.
"Yeaaah... whatever." Aria puckered her lips and made a 'hrmph' noise.
There was a moment of silence between the three girls.
"So, Koudelka, if Aria ever wanted to have a threesome with us--" Devi started and was immediately interrupted by groans from both girls.
"I'm not talking to you for the rest of the night either." Koudelka pouted.
Aria's energy and upbeat extreme personality make her such a freaking jewel to be protected... such a rarity <3
awesome work on both story AND art! I love seeing casual group scenes like this, especially when there's such a thorough context to accompany the illustration in question. When G&K pair up, there's always bound to be rewarding collaborations to be gazed upon and intriguing storytelling to be read over repeatedly... thanks for sharing such lovely characters! :D
ahh christ Aria's obnoxious but likeable X3 I'm glad to see another Devi and Koudelka story, I was thinking about 'em for awhile.
Also, Aria's piquing my curiosity too, since the most homophobic people, like her, typically are gay..hmm..
I look forward to the next one~
Also, I don't think we have a pic of Ruby and Sarah..unless they were in one with Aria beating them, don't think so though
Aria has aaaabsolutely gotta be bi/pan. There's way too much curiosity in her. Girls like that tend to just stay in the closet until later in life 'cus they can get by thinking they're het tho.
No picture of Ruby and Sarah ^^ we apologize!
Also, whaaat? Aria is 100% not gay. Never gay. Hate gay, gays are stupid. If there was a contest for not being gay then she'd win, mmkay?
Also thank you for your comment >w<
This was fantastic. I love these three. Also nice to see Ruby and Sarah cool after all. Devi's parents are also awesome.
This is why I love these stories.
Heh, liked the bit about Aria acting like Devi is the "pack leader". Cause somehow...she is. Much as I like Aria though, pity she needed to hang around and Devi and Koudelka couldn't get any alone time.
The apology from Ruby and Sarah was really heartwarming! A bit... Unrealistic, or at the very least severely uncommon, but that's part of the fun with stories like this, heh.
Devi, Kody and Aria hanging out is really adorable. Honestly, you write slice of life SO well, there's a real genuine charm to the way you just write normal, everyday actions and dialogue, it's got just enough convenience and plot spin to be cute and heartwarming while still being realistic and mundane enough to be believable. I'm still absolutely dying for more Aniko/Ginny but KouDevi stories are my second-favourites behind those, so I'm more than happy to have more of this too! <3
Koudevi! We like that XD
Ruby and Sarah are just picked on a lot and had a bad day -- so they took it out on Devi then got slapped down by Aria. The apology was like... a peace treaty probably =w= what with the Krav Maga master looming in Devi's shadow.
Thank you very much for your kind words~
