Funeral Dirge perched
Marut Guard is the standard for Porthian Heavy Armor.  The armor starts as cotton gambeson as a last line of impact defense, scale plate for protection against stabbing and impacts, another layer of gambeson to help protect the armor from impact and slashing, and finally a layer of leather as further reinforcement against the elements and impacts. Their primary enemies are Vilkatan warriors, whose great strength leads to such insistence on impact dispersion even when facing lances and slashing claws. The armor is designed to keep the user warm and be relatively comfortable, suitable for travel on particularly dangerous roads, and looking fabulous. The gambeson and leather are fashioned first, the scale plate armor fitted to the finished armor so that it rests easily within the layers. Once completed additional plates can be added to the outside via straps and harnesses to provide a customizable level of protection. Due to the fittings required for all Porthian armor, the basic design is intended to be relatively easily refitted by Porthian smiths. The Portian armor smithing art includes skill in the tailor’s art as well, or at the very least armor smiths will collaborate closely with dedicated tailors, specifically because of this

Marut Guard is not the most common form of armor used, despite the protection that it offers. The armor is not as flexible or light as Helic plate, trading mobility for dramatically increased full body durability. It is most commonly seen in well trained troops too valuable to lose to a stray arrow, or vanguard soldiers. It is also seen as near synonymous with Zalamet’s militant followers, as this is considered the lightest armor suitable for their use.

The Armor traces its linage back to one of the Founders of the Jager Society Silas Von Blackclaw. It is said that himself and a few hundred of his followers were able to hold the Malice Pass for three days adorned in this Form of Armor. This let gave time for the primary army to arrive and push back the Vilkatan invasion.
