The Flatwoods Monster would be yet another case of my learning about something from an entirely different source and not learning about it's true origins until much later, though this time it was a much less overt reference and from a source for which I'm far more attached to. I'm sure for many out there they may already know what I'm referring to just by seeing this creature's rather iconic image. I'm speaking of course, about The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask. Yes, all those times I saved Romani Ranch from extraterrestrial invaders I had no idea that those spade-headed ghosts were actually based on a fairly well known Cryptid... though I guess not well known enough if I didn't know what it was for about a decade.
Though this creature will always make think of Majora's Mask first and foremost, the Flatwoods Monster is one of the more striking entities when it comes to Cryptozoology. It's image is so iconic that it's up there among some of the most infamous of Cryptids out there, so much so that the town in which it was allegedly spotted in, Flatwoods West Virginia, fully owns up to the creature as a part of it's heritage and uses it to bring in tourists. That's always kind of cool to me when things like that happen... unfortunately for me though, I think I found out about ole' "Flatwoods" just a bit too late. For me, he'll always just be associated with Majora's Mask in my mind and while it's a well known Cryptid for those in the know how, it's just not quite as far spread and common place as others on this list, so he's going a bit lower... probably shouldn't have spent so much time on this pic if that was the case though
