A zenith normally refers to a point directly skyward of an observer, normally implying planets or other celestial bodies. Whilst we weren’t quite at the height of either of those, it didn’t make a difference. It gave a view with a sight to behold.
Countless ant sized cars, buses and trucks filtered through the luminescent grids that made up neighbourhoods and countless more indistinguishable specks bustled below our feet. The jungle of skyscrapers and buildings filled the peripheral vision, and stretched away to points far over the horizon. Despite the incredible spectacle of the metropolis nearby, we felt oddly indifferent to it. In fact, there was something far more potent that preoccupied us as we both felt as our attention drawn away from the breathtaking vista:
Perfection.
At this point in time, at this moment in this place high above an incredibly dense and populated city, what could only be described as a defining peak was taking place in our lives. Only a few days prior, it had been the 20th of October 2018. Only a few days prior, the pair of us had looked into each other’s eyes, and made the exchange that sealed our partnership.
“I do.”
Numb to the sound of excited chatter surrounding us on the observation deck, we shared in each other’s gaze, both knowing the same thing. Life wouldn’t change much, but at the same time would never quite be the same again. The adventure was before us. The ‘some day’ had finally passed, and it still had us both in anticipation of what the rest of life’s tomorrows would bring.
