When a character has been represented enough times in a certain way, the public can sometimes get a bad or incorrect outlook over who that character is "supposed" to be. Characters who lose to a henchman to showcase the power of their masters can be interpreted as the character just being weak. Characters who are heavily misinterpreted by adaptations can be interpreted by the public as being the adapted version. And a character who is portrayed as being sexual most of the time in fanart can be interpreted as a sexual character in their source. For this reason, artists should be careful on how they represent their characters. Believe me, I know.
