Whilst I don't usually follow DW, I've seen enough previews to describe her as "squirrelly", so for me, it wasn't a surprise, or rather, more so, surprising that Amethyst does make a great fit, both figuratively and literally, to this new Doctor! :D

Truth be told, I haven't seen much of her Dictir except bits and pieces on You Tube (the same goes for Capaldi; I'm up to Matt Smith's first season), but if she's going to be squirrelly... well, she is the Doctor. :p

I wouldn't be too surprised that you haven't seen much of the recent DW seasons, since it's broadcast on BBC America, and not Syfy. But yeah, her quirky personality, I'd say, is best described as "squirrelly". :)

It's not that so much as I don't watch TV. Broadcast reception is terrible here with only one channel that comes through with any reliability, and I only use cable for the internet. I figure it's better to wait for the box sets to come out anyway, but I've been lagging on those.
