Is he planted, or is he coiled, light, waiting to strike? What's his range? Can you tell? Is he tall? Short? Dexterous?
Should you attack direct? Feint? If he takes the feint, will he try to defend or just cut you back? Do you have time to be fancy? Are his men coming...
All these questions swirl in your mind, a jumble of incoherent concepts, half formed words, and gut instincts. Even if you wanted to, you couldn't write this down.
But your time is done. He's moving. In measure. The fight is on.
