This is a document I made mostly as a quick reference for information I found regarding the Asar species which I considered important.
Now in order to create Sebekai, I had to do some research about the species by his own creator, now deceased Jim Hardiman.
I discovered that the artists who have created Asar characters in the past years have made some mistakes that Jim made a bit clear on the character references he posted on his own fur affinity and the Skunkworks AMA group (a official Skunkworks group found on Yahoo which Jim used as a fan group for his works).
Since the species raised popularity recently, the best way of respect for an artist that is sadly not around us anymore is respecting the actual features and info regarding his species instead of doing whatever they want with it, it would be a bit unrespectful taking the species just like that and adding them stuff they are strictly not supposed to have.
Sources can be found on the description of this submission
1. The Asar species have gender differences. While the only officially known Asar created by Skunkworks were all female (Onika, Shek-ti and Koth), Jim did wrote what male ones look like in colors (because in some drawings he did male ones, as just sketches)
Female ones have darker skin around the eyes, while the male ones have dark skin on their ears (not the inside of the ears apparently)
2. The spots on Asar’s skin The skin of the Asar being smooth and hairless, they have darker skin around the snout, bottoms of the hands and feet and the tip of the tail, both genders. It is unknown is they can have specific dark spots on other body areas, but for reference, this features can be seen in the colored pictures James did of Onika and Koth (Shek-ti is black colored so spots on her are not visible), the mention of palettes on the Asar info document implies the dark spots on the asar can have a different color, as long as it’s a darker color
3. They do not grow body hair nor eyelashes No lashes, no eyebrows, no pubes, nothing. They only grow hair on the top of the head and the hair extends to the back of their necks, I think this is the mistake most people has made, both males and females are like this, so yeah even females shouldn’t have pretty lashes because they can not grow them.
4. Height Officially, they measure between 38 inches and 48 inches (90cm to 1.20m) in height, with neither gender being the larger, and weight from 70 to 115 pounds, which is heavy for their size but I think Jim implied this is only caused by the gravity of the planet mostly So, adult Asar species are as small as a kid, and in the very few comics of Skunkworks where they were featured you can see how small they are compared to the skunk girls.
5.Eyes it is mentioned Asar have a second eyelid to help the eye clean and free of particles, because of their lack of eyelashes, and the eyes are bioluminescent, meaning they can glow on the dark.
6. World setup. Asar come from a world called Geb-Kah, it’s called a continent but on a comic, Desiree (a lizard girl) implied it’s a planet, because the Asar have different insides compared to earth species. The only known image of that world is this taken from the Skunkworks AMA group, the description is said to be part of a website about the Asar which never happened apparently, I couldn’t find anything regarding the Asar on Skunked’s site saved from the Internet Archive
The main intention on this document is having a quick reference for anyone who wants to draw this species, since it is very easy doing mistakes because the info about the species is kinda hidden online and not everyone knows Skunkworks created this species.
