I thought the same, garish, clunky, too bright and as you said cookiecutter. I never thought of her as that girly-girl and thought she had a tomboy streak while Scoots had a girly streak for example.
This combo with maybe a pair of colorful sneakers would've really suited her in the show!

I was mostly annoyed that everyone wore the same kind of dresses. Thankfully some of them graduated from that over the years, but it was really jarring at first - everyone was just squeezed into that I AM FASHIONABLE GIRL TEENAGER monolithic hole. Of the mane six only Rarity really looked at home in that initial getup. This lack of personal expression was part of why I resisted this extra-canon for so long, and it certainly didn't do much to undo the horror of the very first images of those Equestria Girls dolls hitting the internet. Actually, I still haven't watched the first movie. Maybe one day I'll get around to it!

Yeah and those clunky boots! They all seemed too wear them and it looked silly, RD had those Converse like ones, I see her in Chucks but not like that and Bloom wearing gumboots too school? She's rustic maybe but not a hick or bogan! In fact I always thought of her as quite girly. And Scoots (even she's often girly for a tomboy) would wear sneakers as well, in fact considering how active the CMC are all three.
Not that many of them would wear a dress or skirt some of the time but they did a cheep job of it. It was the garish clunkyness of it too me. Rarity was also just the most evenly designed as well. Twilight was OK as well mostly, just clunky.

For every one of these characters there are a great lot of possible outfits that would look great on them - it's why I think they were lazy. It's also the fact that they don't individually exist in a bubble: Twilight and Pinkie, for example, wouldn't scan nearly as off to me if everyone else wore something completely different. But nope, they all wore pretty much the same thing. Must be some sort of insane peer pressure at work here. ;D
