What do, wahoo? Dunno what to wear, where to go...
( SFW version )
This pic was started when news about the canceled Klonoa movie, though I kinda expected such. Perfectly good character they don't know what to do with -.-
Haven't been able to work on much postable stuff til lately, got the old tablet repaired (for now), old PC patched up & enough drive space to sort some of the broken & lost projects. But still things needed & lots to do...
Always nice when i see you post something new. I've watched your stuff since the day of FA and pre-cub ban. I'm really glad you keep going, always adorable work, even if intermittent.

I dunno how much longer. Been over a decade of lateral progress - try to work on something, something important breaks or goes wrong, waste time fixing it, partly recover, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat..

Cute~ I've always seen Klonoa as a victim of the squeamishness most companies seem to have towards marketing explicitly cute-coded characters in the west. That is, the same kind of cultural and demographic assumptions that gave us Sonic the Manhog.
The games have sold decently in Japan, but not well enough to support the franchise based on that market alone. Namco's promotion of Klonoa outside of Japan has invariably either been terrible or nonexistent, so it's little surprise they haven't been able to expand the franchise to a worldwide audience, despite the fact that the first two games have something of a cult following in the west.

Even though cute/likable characters are often a secret ingredient in keeping a fan-base.
The marketing issue is pretty much what I've been saying for years. What little was weak and lame. But the Klonoa series was always missing something and had some offputting issues, few of the other characters felt well designed or likable, had a bit of the uncanny clown world style issue attached to the nightmare themes (could use some adjusting). The soundtrack & places were often right but the latter maybe too confined & slow paced. I understand the paths need guidance but doesn't need to be that tight. Maybe less reliance on the inflation thing, his power is wind so should have other options there. Klo's small voice was about right, though some of the yells were a bit screechy. I haven't had time to play the rest of Klo 2 yet though, but seen gameplay clips, seems consistent.
Oddly, the first time I rented & played Klonoa 1, I hated it. Got stuck at the first cliff & gave up, the enemy launch jump maneuver was something that wasn't "normal" then at the time of Mario 64 & TombRaider. But tried again years later when I knew what to do and that was something of a nostalgia trip despite not really having a past with it... something in that is the charm that needs to be realized.
