I was going for a monotone shading of a horn. so, how did I do?

please comment about what i did right and wrong

its very well done for the first try.  Some things to help you out though, is to make sure you cover the entire area in a darker color, because that will make the silhouette pop, and thats what is important.  did you happen to look at any references of horns or tusks while trying this?

It is a really good start, i would keep working at it.  To establish something is round, I would totally look up some horn reference to start to understand the material, because you will get highlights in the dark that will help it pop and turn in space as if it really existed.  its a great way to get started at least :3

thats a picture I found on google with some nice horn highlights in the tip.  To keep practicing the monochrome tests, convert that picture to black and white, and work from there, it really helps to start thinking in values.  There is no dark with out light, and each dark has its own set of lights with in itself.
