Kane was once Michael's old childhood friend, that changed when Kane's powers started to develop thinking he is the best better then everyone. He looks down on Michael as a weakling an insult to hedgehog kind. Years later when Michael's powers developed more powerful that when Kane begins to despises him even more. Now he views him as his greatest challenge his rival.
They both do have similar power except Kane's powers is more weaponized then Michaels powers. Kane is able to use the chaos energy to fire lighting like spears at opponents he called "Spear Bolt". He can even unleash burst of chaos energy from his body. No wonder Kane thinks he's the best. But Michael always did view Kane as a inspiration for him to get stronger to one day surpass Kane.
