This little dragon loves skulls and scratches.

Recoloured version of - https://inkbunny.net/s/1670228

I've finally given up on Photoshop. Have been using a CS5 for years now as I didn't want to get stuck in CC's subscription model, but it no longer plays nice with my Wacom. Used this old piece as a practice for trialing other programs and ended going with Clip Studio Paint.

tried Krita? It's a free Photoshop-like app

I haven't! I trialed Painter, Paint Shop Pro, Paint Tool Sai and Clip Studio Paint. Ended up buying Clip Studio.

Didn't realise how many different art programs were out there nowdays...

Yeah, it's surprising how much variety there's now. Including a free replacement for Office and Corel called LibreOffice.

Now I know it's probably way off, but I'm getting vibes of old Disney's Snow White Queen's dungeon/laboratory. Esp when the crow(raven?) Is screwing around with the skull.

Oh yeah I can see that. I grew up on the older animated Disney movies so I'm sure they'd still be influencing my pictures. Always think of The Sword in the Stone for old castle stone walls.

Understandable. Adobe is being greedy and rather short sighted by alienating their long time users.  Read several FA journals of artists switching over to all manner of photoshop alternatives. It's inevitable that prices do go up but not doubling or more instantly and to be blunt a subscription service including web space than most don't actually use is just blind extortion.

Price wise, it's just not worth it. And you only getting bug fixing updates if you're on their subscription model is just a dick move. I use a few Adobe products at work (Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator) so I'm really familiar with them, but I honestly don't think I'd stick with them if I was footing the bill.

Clip Studio Paint was a one off payment that ended up being half the annual price of the most basic plan including Photoshop. That included a full version of Clip Studio Paint Pro plus support, updates, and access to their community. For freelance artists I can't see how many could justify the expense, especially when Clip Studio Paint seems just as good if not better for art.

Indeed. For my Photography work i still use lightroom but i've been moving over to software like Silkypix, Afinity Photo (combo photoshop/lightroom) and Capture one.  Haven't decided which is best yet but the trials are still on-going. Adobe lightroom is still the least cluttered gui particularly when it comes to quick simple fixes. Affinity photo is the closest to both although the file encoding (jpg, png, tif, e.t..c) is a bit challenging to setup. Silkypix has the best detail and colour controls but it's gui is clumsy.
