Connie's mom is the chief doctor on a Starfleet ship, so she's grown up in space. She's a smart kid and she's shown a lot of initiative, proving herself invaluable in the Federation's diplomatic efforts with the Gems. But when she gets injured on a mission to the Gem planet, they have to make a holographic version of her and transfer her consciousness into the mobile emitter until they can find a way to get her back in her own body. She doesn't know how she feels about being a hologram, but at least she's alive.
