Once upon a time, as everyone knows, the Roman Emperor Caligula went mad and named his horse a senator. Or that's how the story goes. The real history is, as always, somewhat more convoluted. Though, just between you, me and the cat, I think I might be inclined to go a bit mad if I knew I would go down in history under the nickname "Little Boot".
In any case, it makes for an amusing story and this last Halloween I couldn't resist getting a picture done of Adonis dressed up in your standard Roman toga in honor of this little bit of historical silliness. Incitatus is said to have had quite a cushy life. He lived in a marble stall lined with purple blankets, and wore a collar set with precious stones. True or not, who could resist the chance to lounge around in that sort of luxury, if only for a day?
