Hattoran Chronicle Ch1
A few ships of note for my writing project.

USS Heinlein--

The Heinlein is a dedicated science ship taken from the same sort of intention as previous vessels like the Oberth and Nova. It isn't a deep-space exploration vessel, instead meant to be sent in after a promising discovery has been made to bring extremely powerful sensors and computing muscle to conduct deep surveys.

It's big enough (roughly the same as an Intrepid explorer) to have more range and crew comfort than those older 200m science ships, allowing it to take on longer missions. The saucer has a lot of internal volume,( the saucer alone has something like 12 decks), providing room for not only the wealth of sensors and massive computer core, but allowing for quite roomy crew accommodations and amenities, though not of the scale afforded to the massive deep explorer ships. It is limited mostly by power endurance, as the sensors and main computer core consume fuel at a massive rate at full utilization.

It also houses an above-average compliment of support craft within 2 dedicated bays, including drone shuttles that are essentially advanced probes. It has the capacity to manufacture these at a reasonable rate given available resources.

Like most Federation vessels it's designed to multitask well when necessary. The excessive power generation capabilities can be put to full use in a combat situation, though heat buildup becomes a factor in longer engagements. Its sensors also make it well suited to border patrol, especially where cloaked craft may be involved.

Ships of this era tend to have a retractable bridge, hiding it under armor panels upon a red alert. The bridge is also fully modular and can act as a lifeboat and short-range craft.

Shrike --

Hattoran ships tend to be old and not particularly standardized, demand-manufactured for the task at hand at the particular time. Nearly all are small craft made for teams of 2-4. There are some unifying elements across all those encountered, though.

Sensor invisibility

Lack of visible propulsion: Though it's not exactly a reactionless drive, said reaction mass is not ejected into realspace, and therefore it does not need nozzles present in realspace.

FTL: Achieved via dimensional slip, allowing travel between galactic clusters in days or less, depending on how well mapped the intervening space is.

Weaponry is simply projected along the edges, with variable output, tending towards simple brute force to overwhelm any defensive technology. Incoming weapons fire, (requiring manual firing as any locks are highly unlikely ) rather than being deflected or absorbed, is often simply voided.

Ship functions and crew missions are all managed by an embedded ship AI that is also able to project archival and realtime data directly to the Hattoran operatives through instantaneous neural link. Gear is manufactured on-demand via nanite forge. Likewise the interior is small and spartan, but can be reconfigured in seconds to fill any need within the space constraints.

USS Relentless--

Part of the new Singularity class, the Relentless is one of those hero-ships you always see, boldly going and stuff. I'm not going to write a lot about this one.

I took a few design elements from the Odyssey class like the catamaran-style connections between the underside of the saucer and the secondary hull. I haven't filled in a lot of detail yet. partly because meh and mostly because I'm working in MS Paint give me a freaking break.

redesigned the Heinlein and I already hate it, I just hate it less than the old one.
