Guild work can be dangerous. Even when bruised and bloodied it's important to downplay just how dangerous the situation was for the sake of the townsfolk.

Knowing how to fight or protect yourself is no longer necessary when the guilds offer protection. Some pokemon simply opted for a calmer life when the humans disappeared, living in large cities governed by these guilds.

And some became bandits who preyed upon them.
