A week ago, as of this writing, our beloved cat and friend of some 20 years, Che, passed on and was laid to rest. Che was the kind of pet who had all the good boxes checked—he was handsome, affectionate, smart, people-friendly, chatty and just plain good company with a minimum of fuss and looking after. I wish I had his personality—he was never snarly, never ran under the bed when company arrived (he actually enjoyed the commotion that people would bring at, say, the holidays) and would act like he was one of us. One of his coolest traits was how he'd watch TV, he could've sat sphinx-like and watched, but instead he had his favorite chair and would sit in it like Archie Bunker, with his feet out and resting one paw on the armrest (if he had working thumbs I know he would have used the remote). He had this amazing purr that I've never heard from any other cat—it was melodic, like a cooing dove, and when he was blissing he would trill loud enough to be heard across the room. It was like having a tribble in the house.
I could go on about this character, but we're still pretty sad and we miss him terribly. His death was slow (kidney failure from cancer) so we had time to gird ourselves and shower him with attention, but when the end came, it was still a heart-break. This pic I took last April 1st shows Che breaking the fourth wall in front of a kittified tote bag. (I'm sure he knew what he was doing.)
Thanks for reading, and if you have a pet that pushes all your happy buttons, then you know just how wonderful animals are. They are proof that this world is a good world. ^•^
