This is heartbreaking, because she ... 'got turned' while she was wandering around an alien planet, starving to death. What if she's just the lingering form of what she once was? e_e

It's quite obvious that Julia is still in there. But she has changed.

Saying there is this dark entity that is fighting with Julia for control... it might be one way to put it, but I think it would not be entirely accurate. In the end there is only one creature, one mind.

But she has conflicting emotions. I'd assume she has Julia's memory, Julias values, Julia's empathy, but also the hunger and desires of something - completely alien.

I don't think there really are two different beings in Julia's mind, it's rather just different goals and desires that conflict with each other.

It's possible that as a result of this she developes an actual "split personality disorder", but it might be better and healthier if she doesn't. (Considering you really wouldn't want to deal with her 'Mr.Hyde' )

As strong as the desire to devour her friends is, she still loves them and still wouldn't *want* to do it. She's add odds with herself for desiring that, she knows that's not "right". So likely she hates those new desires. She knows what she has become.

The big question is, what's stronger? Her alien instincts, or her memories, her empathy and her love?

It might entirely depend on the circumstances.

Better keep her well fed? :)

This is of course speculation based on my interpretation of the comic.
