Story and Music:

This goes great with the story: https:/www.youtube.com/watch?v=PB-JzeR

In the land of Gladvale was well-known for several things; the rich soil that always bore hearty crops, and two thriving kingdoms withing it's lush borders.

The castle along the eastern shores was known as Bloodwater.  That kingdom was inhabited by a vast populace of anthropomorphic shark-like beings. They lived a peacful life and did not fight unless it was necessary, but were known to be strong, capable warriors throughout the ages. Some were even adept magic wielders.

Castle Nightfire lie near the base of a mighty volcano in the south-western kingdom. This place was run by another clan of fierce dragon warriors.  Like the shark people, the dragons here lived rich lives, while faithfully guarding their homestead. During the night, their kingdom glows like an eerie beacon.

One things many people did not know about was that there used to be three kingdoms... Long ago, Gladvale was known as The Golden Trinity, because three kingdoms, equally distanced from the other, provided active trade throughout the entire country. Each kingdom had it's own special exports back then.

The sharks specialzed in seafood and sailing equipment. It was said Bloodwater ships were the finest sailing vessels in the land.

The dragons provided the land with special slow burning oils and volcanic lanterns. It was said that a dragon crafted lantern could burn for 100 years.

Then there was the ancient wolf clan to the northern border. They had specialized in warm travelling cloaks... and knowledge. The mighty wolf clan was the most honoured record keepers in Gladvale. Castle Darkmoon housed thousands of century old scrolls on the history of the land and the three kingdoms. In addition, there were texts and ancient books from all over the world. Darkmoon Castle was a  veritable pool of information on all subjects.

Like the other clans, the wolves were proud warriors with powerful defenses. Above all else, they were highly territorial. So it was odd when one day a shark trading caravan found the kingdom's gates wide open. Even more curious was the fact that the entire city appeared completely abandoned.

The legend goes that shark trader, Sir Fang Everant, and his comrades decided to explore Castle Darkmoon sometime after nightfall. Deep within it's architectural catacombs lies the Hall Of Wisdom; the castle's vast library of knowledge and records. No one outside the wolf clan had ever set foot inside it. It's said that the sharks found this glorious place after hours of searching. Rumor has it that one of the many thousands of books seemed to be beckoning them closer. All the sharks, save for one, excitedly pored over the pages of this stranged book written completely in Latin.

Something in the room made Fang uneasy, and he decided to leave as qiuckly as possible, without his comrades when they refused to go. Fang hurried through the abandoned streets back to his caravan. There he began writing a letter to Shark King, Saint Gladius Sevenrow. He planned on giving the letter to the passing courier in the morning. A courier would reach Bloodwater four days faster than his caravan and King Sevenrow needed to know what was happening as soon as possible. He wrote down all his suspicions and the strange things he experienced as fast as he could. As he adressed the envelope, the fellow traders returned to the caravan.

The next morning the courier passed by and saw a strange letter in the road. It appeared to have splotchy red stains on it. Over by the castle, the courier noticed a caravan. He got off his horse and had a look around. The caravan was completely emtpy, but what struck him was shambled shape of the caravan. He saw a shark emblem, so he knew it should have been pristine, but it wasn't.

The curtains were shredded, the wood was cracked in places, and most horrifying of all was the dark red spatters marring the caravan's features. It looked an awful lot like the red stain on the envelope and the scent of blood clung to the air. The young courier had never seen such a display. It looked like someone was been massacred.

Fearing for his own life, the man sped off to Castle Bloodwater.

After recieving the letter, King Sevenrow ordered a search party to find Fang Everant and his friends. They left at daybreak in early May and the king failed to hear from them well into June. He ordered a few knights to follow them and return with the search party. They too did not return. Over the years, people volunteered for the job to find the missing soldiers and for their own greedy curiousity of what lie withing the Hall of Wisdom. Many left on a journey for Castle Darkmoon and none ever returned.

Dragon warriors soon got wind of the news and they too had ventured off in search of the Castles strange treasure, but not even the dragons returned from that place.

Decades passed, an eerie fog seemed to settle over the lifeless land of Darkmoon. In time it became nothing more than faded tragic memory. After centuries of speculation and wonder, the story of Darkmoon became legend. People became obsessed with the legend, including one young shark named Lakefire. He grew up with tales of Darkmoon that his grandfather regaled him with.

Lakefire, young, tough, and a bit foolhardy, was a gifted swordsman, and a talented page. He could expertly wield both sword and magic. He trained day and night, because he decided that he would be the one to finally solve the mystery of Darkmoon Castle once and for all... even though the current king, Sevenrow III, forbade all sharks from coming within three miles of that horrid place.

Under cover of darkness, Lakefire slipped out of the kingdom, riding off on his black horse.... He continued on for three days straight with minimal stops through harsh, unforgiving lands to finally arrive at the desolate castle to the north. Lakefire dismounted and immediately drew his sword. If the legends were true, he may not ever he heard from again. No one had seen this place in years. Who knew what kind of dangers lurked here?

It was late evening, the sun was just beginning to set. Lakefire cautiously walked up to the front gates of the kingdom. The deafening silence and unhinged creaking of rusted iron gates sent an involuntary shiver through his body. Summoning his courage, Lakefire stepped through into the land of the unknown. A long and winding cobblestone path lined with houses and other small abandoned biuldings wound it's way up to Castle Darkmoon. It stood there at the end of the city, casting a shadow over everything, like a dark omen.

With every step he took, Lakefire felt like he was being watched...

He continued toward the castle slowly, but he couldn't shake this creepy feeling.

He knew something was watching him...

"Well, well... I thought sharks weren't allowed anywhere near these lands." A voice suddenly said from above him.

Lakefire's eyes snapped up to meet the glowing violet eyes of a Nightfire dragon. She was crouched low on the stone shingled roof of an abandoned shop, swishing her tail predatorily.

Lakefire let out audible gasp. It was only a dragon. He certainly hadn't expected to run into one here. He glowered at the dragon, "You gave me a fright, volcanic beast. What brings you to this forsaken place?"

The dragon glared boredly and unamused. "I intend to discover the secrets these walls hide, little fish."

Lakefire's cheeks turned red. Yes, indeed, an eye for an eye. "What is your name, O' dragon of Castle Nightfire?"

The dragon leapt down to the ground, standing several heads higher than him; quite an imposing figure. "I am know as Rakesha. And you would be?"

"I am Lakefire." He bowed in greeting.

"Nice to meet you," she replied.

"And you aswell." Lakefire agreed. "Shall we keep eachother company?"

"I don't see why not."

The sun was much lower on the horizon now.

They continued up the path toward the castle. The shadow it cast was even bigger now thank to the setting sun. As they reached the step to the castle, Rakesha noticed something on the west side of the castle grounds.

"Look, Tiny Fish! I think that is the Darkmoon's famous fishing lake.." Rakesha said with a hint of delight in her voice.

Lakefire looked to her then to the direction her eyes were focused on. Yes, indeed, there appeared to be some sort of lake in the distance and a small boat dock. "Lets check it out." Lakefire suggested.

He strode off, with Rakesha keeping stride beside him. Up close, the lake was massive, but there was something unusual about the water. The water was not clear and pristine as he had expected it to be. It was dark and murkey.

"Hmm... That's strange..." Raskesha commented.

They stepped out onto the wooden planks of the boating dock. Rakesha and Lakefire peered out into the water.

"It seems it's turned into some kind of swamp..." Rakesha breathed. A chill went down Lakefire's spine.

"How could this be?" He asked to no one in particular.

The sun was now gone over the horizon. Only the pink and purple tinted sky could be seen.

The air around then suddenly seemed to turn colder. Rakesha gasped. "The fog...."

Lakefire had heard about the fog of Darkmoon. His grandfather told his stories that a mysterious fog settled over the land at night several years after the Fang Everant went missing. The fog was practically a legend all it's own. He's heard so many stories; the fog is alive and sucks the life out of those who enter it; something else lives and lurks in the fog, the fog is a omen of death and all those who see it die exactly 3 days later; anyone caught in the fog would freeze to death; the fog is real, the fog is a ghost, the fog is actually a mist of the spirit world gathering souls....

"What have you heard about the fog, Rakesha?" he asked.

She looked at him, somewhat nervous. "The fog envelopes you and you're never heard from again as you're forced to wander aimlessly in it's depths."

Oh, that's new...

Just then the swamp started to gurgle and churn. Rakesha and Lakefire jumped and gasped quietly. Lakefire immediately drew his sword. The fog grew thicked and an ungodly strangled, gurgle erupted into the air... followed by another, and another, and another until there was a whole chorus of those sickening noises.... followed by several different squishing sounds. The fog was too thick now, both the shark and the dragon couldn't see what was happening in the lake/swamp... or where those horrible noises were coming from.

Whatever the fog was and whatever it brought with it, it was getting closer...

Lakefire raised his left hand and summoned a swirling green orb of bright burning magic. Rakesha opened her jaws and readied her fire breath.

They were ready for the apparent fight they had on their hands...

...Assuming they'd live that long....
